أحبني وأنا المعدوم في ذاتي
He loved me when I was naught in myself
بأسماء رب العالمين ابتدائيا
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
يا منكرين لكم في ناركم كيات
Roamers of the flames, intentions made deeds your lives
أحزاننا بلقائكم أفراح
Our sorrows turned to joy upon seeing you
أوميض برق بالأبيرق لاحا
A flash of lightning shone from the clouds,
هو المشكور والشاكر
He's the thanked and the thankful one
طيب الحبائب إذا هب الهوى ندي
Sweethearts, when passion stirs, I give
الكل فان إذا له نسبوا
All things perish when their time arrives
رفعت مقامي منة وتفضلا
You raised my status as a favor and grace
الباطن السابق الظاهر هو المسبوق
The essence preceding existence is preceded
جسد في هوى المليح عليل
A body in love's passion is frail,
أقبل على الحق لا تقبل على الباطل
Turn to the truth, do not turn to falsehood
إياك إياك ربك تفهمو بالعقل
I seek refuge in You from You
تجلت لنا ذات وفعل بدا واسم
An essence manifested itself to us, an act appeared, and a name,
كن عارفا بوحدة الوجود
Know the oneness of existence
أي كنت من قبل أني كنت لا معه
Roses are red, violets are blue, I cannot translate, please start anew.
يا من إلى بابه باللطف ألجاني
O You who gently led me to Your door,
أنا العدم وبربي صرت كن فيكون
I am the void, and by my Lord I became "Be," so it is
أيها السائر بالركبان حي
O you who travels with the caravans, live
لله حمدي دائما في الورى
My praise to God is everlasting in creation
وجه تعدد في المرائي
Faces multiply in the mirrors
من الجسوم إلى الأرواح إسراء
From bodies to spirits, a night journey
قد قال من قال من جهل وإغواء
Some ignorant fools blaspheme and rail
تفاخر الماء والهواء
Water and air boasted
يا عارف الله أنت الحي صاحب قرب
The sweet sting is not like honey in the drink
بين أهل الجحود والتكذيب
Amongst the people of denial and rejection
يامن يحب حبيبه
O you who love your beloved
طلعة المحبوب غاية المطلوب
The beloved's apparition is the ultimate desire
الكون يغيب من ضيا وجه حبيبي
The universe disappears without the face of my beloved
لي بالحمى قوم عرفت بصبهم
I have a people who are known for their passion
رفعنا إلى أوج العلاء رؤسنا
We raised our heads to the highest heights
هذا الطريق الأقرب
This is the nearest path
إنما بيت عزتي وهو قلبي
My house of dignity is my heart
حيي زمان التصابي
The era of affection has lived
فر دهري بحقه
My age has fled its rights
يا عارف الله لا تغفل عن الوهاب
O knower of God, do not neglect the Giver
إن آل النبي في كل عصر
The Prophet's family in every age
يا نسمة من حمى قاسون لي هاجت
O breeze from the heat of Qasoun that stirred for me
ذهب الخوف والرجا
Fear and hope have gone
يا حسن بستان في اللوان اسمه البرج
O beautiful garden of colors, its name is Al Burj
عشقت في مكة ذات البها
I fell in love in Mecca, the radiant one
جميع الورى كل أحوالهم
All people and all their circumstances
إن هذا الصبا وهذا الصباحا
This dawn and this morning revealed to me
ما الكل إلا رجل واحد
All are but one man,
غصن بان فوقه البدر بدا
A branch whereabove the full moon shone
اجتمعوا يا إخوتي واحشدوا
Gather together, my brothers, and rally
وجود كوني من تجلي الجواد
My universal existence is from the manifestation of the Generous
هذا الكثير الواحد
This abundant One
لقد قيل لي ما الفرق عند أولي الذكر
I was told: What is the difference in the eyes of the wise
الفرق سكر لأن العقل يستجدي
Difference is intoxication, as the mind begs
هذا وهذا ثم هذا بعده
This and this then this after
وجود الشيء شاء يشيء شيئا
The existence of a thing, desired a thing, created a thing
إنما الدين كله تقليد
Religion is all tradition
حدثوا عني حديث الغرام
They spoke of me, the talk of love
أسلك طريق السلامه واغتنم عيدو
Seek the path of peace and seize the chance
خيطان خيط أبيض وهو الوجود
Two threads - one white, which is existence
هذا الوجود وهذا الواحد الأحد
This existence, this One, the One
كن عارفا بنعمة الله وكن
Know the blessings of God and be
هيهات هيهات أعط القوس باريها
Alas, alas, give the bow its cord back
إن من هام فيه وجدا فؤادي
My heart is overwhelmed with passion for the One
يا من به العبد من دون السوى لاذا
O You through whom the servant finds refuge apart from all else
لذاتي بذاتي لا لكم أنا ظاهر
For my sake, by myself, not for you all am I manifest
إن للإحسان نورا
Charity has a light
دوائر أوهام بها شغل الفكر
Circles of illusions, with which thought is preoccupied
بيني وبينك يا قديم جدار
Between you and me, O ancient one, is a wall
حرف له بالإنحراف مظاهر
A letter with tendencies to deviate
وجه الحبيب بدا في الكائنات لنا
The beloved's face appeared to us in all creation
حججت إلى البيت المقدس حجة
I made pilgrimage to the holy house as a pilgrim
حوضي الذي فيه أنبوبان من كوثر
My fountain which has two pipes of Kauthar
لو خلق الله وجودا للورى
If God had created a counterpart in existence
إن هذا زمن الأمر العسير
This is a time of great hardship
إن وجها كنت أنظره
A face I used to see
كم من حقير له سر تضمنه
How many a humble one hides a secret
من أين للسعد ما ندري وللرازي
From whence comes the insight of Saad and Razi
يا عابدا ربا بتصويره
O worshipper of a Lord through your imagining of Him,
روح تغذت بتقوى الله طيبة
A spirit nurtured by godly piety, good
أطلق الكاس بعد طول احتباس
Pour out the cup after long withholding
يا ذوينا وأمنا وأبينا
O our relatives, mother and father
شمعتي أشرقت بنورك ربي
My candle shone with Your light, my Lord
لمتى تموه بالمهاة وبالرشا
For how long will you disguise with folly and evil
وما الكمال سوى علم يريك به
And perfection is but knowledge that shows you
كل من بالناس يختلط
He who mingles with people
حروف أرواح سقط
Letters are souls that fell
يشف ثوب عنه لي مخيط
The robe uncovers His essence for me a tailor
ليل الهياكل دجا يا سعد أيقاظه
The temples' night is dark, O Saad awaken it
رويدك أيها البرق اللموع
Gently, o flashing lightning
ما تركت الكل إلا ورعا
I have left all but piety,
أيها البرق اللموع
O lightning that flashes bright
قوموا بنا كلنا نخرق حجاب الطبع
Come all, let us tear the veil of convention
إن شمسي من طاقتي في
My sun from my energy is rising
كل مصنوع بمن قد صنعه
Everything is made by its maker
يا مؤمنون بأن الله خالقكم
O believers that God is your Creator
محبوب الذات كامل الأوصاف
The beloved of self, complete in attributes
ما اصطكاك الأجرام عند السماع
The clanging of bodies is no idle talk
أنا الوجود الذي ذاتي وأوصافي
I am the existence, my essence and attributes
وإذا ذات كل شيء تبدت
And when the essence of all things appeared before Him
هما إحاطتان بالأشياء
They are two encompassings of things -
من لعبد بجسمه السقم بادي
A sickly slave am I amidst
أيامن له الأشواق مني كثيرة
My days long for you so very much,
عشق ذات الخال عشقي
The beauty mark is my love
نحن في وادي وغيب الغيب في وادي عميق
We are in a valley, and the unseen is in a deep valley
أول منامك هذا
This first sleep of yours
لبسنتني مليحة الغيب مرطا
The unseen has clothed me in fine garb,
إنما رزقك الذي حزته في
The sustenance that you have earned
كل الكلام الذي يبدو وكل سنا
All speech that seems and all years
قف جانب الدير سل عنها القساسيسا
Stand by the monastery, ask the priests about her
عرف المحبوب فابتهجا
The beloved was recognized, so they rejoiced,
مت في هوى حي تحسب حيه حيك
I died of love while you thought I was alive
يا مبتلى بالغرام اصبر لأوجاعك
Oh afflicted by passion, be patient for your pains
دين هذا الزمان محض ابتداع
The religion of this age is pure innovation
الله حق وأغياره عدم باطل
God is Truth and all else is naught
العلم والمال عدوان لم
Knowledge and wealth are two enemies that
حقيقتي حضرة التجلي
My essence is the epiphany of His presence
نور تلفف بالظلام مكمل
Light enveloped darkness to perfection
كل ما يخلقه العقل أمل
All that the mind creates is hope
إنا فهمنا عنه أمثالا لنا
We have understood parables about Him
ربنا الله ذلك المتعالي
Our Lord Allah, the Most High
إني أنا جسم فنفس فروح
I am a body, a soul, and a spirit
نسب المحبة أقرب الأنساب
Love's lineage is the noblest lineage,
شمس ذاتي ما لها غيري طلوع
My inner sun, she belongs to none but me,
أنا الوجود وكل الخلق أفعالي
I am existence, and all creation my actions,
الفعل معدوم لا يظهر بلا فاعل
The deed is naught without the doer's hand
كل دين إن فاتك الإسلام
If you miss Islam, every religion
قل لعباد الخيال
Tell the worshippers of fantasy,
غب عن وجودك ترى في وسط قلبك رسم
Your beloved's image is drawn on your heart's core
فؤادي قد أضر به الغرام
My heart is hurt by passion's sting
لكل الورى عن وجهكم أعين طمس
The world has eyes blinded to all but your face,
رب موصول هو الناي الذي
A connected reed is he, who
ظهرت يا نور والسوى عدم
You appeared, O Light, and the void was no more
إن كنت نائم
If you are asleep,
شموس الجمال تزيل الظلم
The suns of beauty dispel the darkness
عجبت من شيئين قد أجمعت
I am amazed by two things that
جئنا بحكم التجلي قرية الفيجه
We came with the ruling of revelation to the village of Al-Fijah
قالوا غدا نأتي ديار الحمى
They said tomorrow we will come to the abode of passion
نزيد في الشكر له دائما
We increase our thanks to Him always
ظهر الوجود من العدم
Existence appeared out of nonexistence
يا من على الباب لا يرد
O you at the door who will not turn away
فراشتي رأت النور الذي ظهرا
My moth saw the light that appeared
يا حادي الركب سر بي
O leader of the caravan, journey with me
إن هذا الأحد الديموم
This eternal Sunday
تب إلى الله من ذنوبك يكفي
Repent to God of your sins, it is enough
بالله يا من رماني بالصد والهجران
In God's name, O you who cast me with estrangement and abandonment
ما الشدة إلا للفرج
Hardship is followed by relief
عرج بالسفح من نواحي نجد
Wander through the foothills of Najd
كنت بالأمس عند نفسي كثيفا
Yesterday I was immersed in myself, dense,
أنا المعروف لي بالله ألوان
I am known to God in many hues
يقول الناس دع ما فيه ظن
People say: leave what you doubt
بأوج الهوى كم منزل قد علمته
At the peak of passion, how many a home I've come to know,
نحن الجفون نحفظ العيونا
We are the eyelids protecting the eyes
لقد نظرت قوم بطرف لهم قذي
Some looked with eyes that barely see
بدا جمال حبيبي
My beloved's beauty has appeared
طلعت في ظلمة الأك
I went out into the darkness of the night
نحن قوم متنا به وفنينا
We are a people who found death in love with Him
أواه من سار فيكم
Alas, who among you
لم يبق مخلوق تخصيصا وتعيينا
No creature remains specifically appointed
ومن شدة القرب مني
And from being so close to me
حاولت في المرآة أنظر من أنا
I tried to look in the mirror, to see who I am
يا طلعة الحب لاقيتو ولاقاني
O dawn of love, I met you though you met not me,
إني أنا وبينما
I am, and while
ظاهر لا يكون أظهر منه
He appears, nothing more apparent than He
كم أتعب الحب من عاشق وكم عنى
How much love has wearied the lover, and how much has bothered me
لا معه نحن ولا معنا
We are with Him, nor are we apart,
ادخلو في تصرف الرحمان
Enter into the mercy of the Most Merciful
من شدة القرب كان البعد للإنسان
From the intensity of nearness was distance to man
لا تخلط الواجب بالممكن
Do not confuse duty with possibility
ريح التجلي وريح المصطفى ريحان
The wind of revelation and the wind of the Chosen One are two winds
جمال وجه الحبيب أشرق
The beauty of my beloved's face shone
شهدت القديم الحق بالحادث الفاني
The Eternal Truth I witnessed by the passing event,
حسب الناس أنني أتسلى
People think that I am entertained
يا غافلون استفيقوا يا نيام الجاه
O heedless ones, awaken, o sleepers of ignorance
نحن معاني الوجود فيه
We are the meanings of existence in Him
لا يرى الفقه الإلهي
The wise one sees naught but wisdom
إن الذي أكد وعدي وفاه
The one who affirmed his promise and fulfilled it
عليك بروحك السر الإلهي
Upon you, your spirit, the divine secret
ردني الله له ردا جميلا
May God bring me back to him with a beautiful return
إن الحروف إشارات المداد فلا
The letters are signs of the ink, so
من يخبر القوم عني يا كرام الحي
The exalted people's souls have died, but their hearts still live.
نزل الذي هو عن سواه لفي غنى
He who transcends all descended into need
يا راحم الشيب في شيبه
O Merciful to the grey-haired in his greyness
شرف ناسوتي بلاهوته
His divinity ennobled my humanity
للزاي في شأن الخلافة زينة
The letter Z has glory in the caliphate
كن حافظا حرمة من تقتدي
Be the guardian of the sanctity of those you follow
مسكين يلمع له في الكون برق الحق
A poor man sees in the universe the lightning of truth
من حينا جاءنا طيب الهوى ناشق
Since a sweet love came to us yearning
يا حسن مطلع من أهوى بذي سلم
O Hassan whose appearance I fell in love with in Salma's abode
يا منزل الركب بين البان فالعلم
O abode of travelers between the dunes and knowledge
بحمد الله من أَلهَم
By the praise of Allah, the Inspirer
وجهي بنور الحق في إشراق
My face shines with the light of truth in radiance
طيب محي الدين مسك في الورى
The fragrance of Mohi-ud-Din lingers in creation
إن كاس التوحيد من يحتسيه
Whoever drinks from the cup of oneness
إن عين الوجود ليس تنام
The eye of existence does not sleep,
ربي الذي ليس له ماهيه
My Lord who has no essence
أقبل ودع عنك الكسل
Come and leave laziness behind
يا جمال من أهوى يا غيب
O beauty whom I love, O absent one
يا للبرية إن قلبي ما ارتوى
O wilderness, my heart is not sated
يا وجودي إنني الصورة لك
O my existence, I am your image
كلامنا نعرفه
Our words we know
أنا معنى عناني الحق فيه
I am an egotistical meaning, in truth
تب إلى الله من علوم الكلام
Pray to God against the sciences of theology
هذه أثوابهم والحلل
These are their clothes and robes
صورة إن نظرتها كلفتني
Her image, if I gaze on it, burdens me,
ردني الله إليه من سواه
He has returned me to Him from all others
كن باسم حبك تكن موجود لا باسمك
Be in your love's name, not your own name
عالم الدنيا كفجر كاذب
The world is like a false dawn
إنني قد شفني السقم
I am indeed afflicted by illness,
قد جاء ربنا لنا
Our Lord has come to us
غزال ذاك الحمى صبري قضى فيه
That fevered gazelle exhausted my patience
لم أزل في الحب يا أملي
I have not ceased loving you, O my hope
ذات تراأى النور من صفها
She saw the light in its rows
يا دار ريا آدام الله رياكي
O home of meadows, may God water your meadows,
اجمع جميع الحوادث كلها جمله
Gather all events into a single sentence,
قم تأمل في هذه الأنوار
Stand and ponder these lights
حرم آمن لكعبة قلبي
A sacred sanctuary for the Kaaba of my heart
وجدت كنزا هنا هو البركه
I found a treasure here, it is the blessing
العفو أليق لا جرم
Forgiveness is more fitting, no doubt
وجود وأشيا ما لهن وجود
Existence and things have no existence
إنني كن وإنني فيكون
I exist, and by existing I bring into being
زينة الله منه حرز حريز
God has made it a protected fortress,
آلة الشكر هذه الأموال
This machine of gratitude
خلوة القبر أشرف الخلوات
The solitude of the grave is the noblest solitude
حق عيني رؤية الوجه المليح
My eyes have the right to see the beautiful face
إن كنت لم ترض عن النفس
If you are not pleased with yourself,
أنت في بالك خاطر
You are in my mind, a thought
إن من بعض ما هي الأطوار
Some of what things are phases
ما الخلق سوى خرير نهر الكوثر
Creation is but the murmuring of the river Al-Kawthar
مقالة ابن الرفاعي كان حاصلها
The article by Ibn al-Rif'a'i, its essence was
سق مطاياك بالحدا يا حادي
Lead your camels gently, O guide
هذا الحبيب الذي بالقهر غيرهم
This beloved who by force changed them
نفسي على نفسي الوجود بها نزل
My selfhood descended upon my self
محمد الإسم حمد الرسم معلوم
Muhammad is the name, praise is the trait, well-known
ما له عندك كنه
What is his essence to you
قلبي الذي في هوى المحبوب لاقى البين
My heart which fell in love's way has found separation
شعورك والإدراك فعل الذي خلق
Your feelings and perception are the actions that He created
شمس باء الوجود ذات غروب
A sun with the existence of Baa, with a sunset
لبس القميص أو القبا
Whether wearing shirt or cloak
ليس الوجود كما يقال اثنان
Existence is not as they say two
زر بنات القسوس في دير هنه
Visit the daughters of priests in the monastery of Hinnah
أفعال رب الخلق روضة عطرِهِ
The actions of the Lord of creation, its meadow is its fragrance
إن للثاء في الحروف ثبات
Indeed constancy is for praise in letters
أدر صرفا خمور الأندرينا
Pour the wine of Andren down the throats
هي قامت بنفسها لذويها
She stands by herself for her people
إن كنت تدري الرزق في بلدة
If you know sustenance lies in a land
كل وقت جمال وجهك بادي
Every time the beauty of your face appears
نحن بالأمر الإلهي
We are by God's command
تكاثر وجد القلب سرا وجهرة
My heart has multiplied in secret love and open passion
إليك من البعد قلبي دنا
To you from afar my heart drew near
شمس لها قلب الموحد مطلع
The sun whose heart is that of the devout has risen
تمنيت لي عبدا ثمانون عمره
I wished for a slave, eighty years old
هو الركبان والحادي
He is the seventy-first and the guide,
إني أنا المكتوب في الطرس
I am the one written in fate
إن سلمى لها جميع التمني
She has all I wish for
غنى لنا داعي السرور وغردا
The herald of joy has sung for us and trilled
أسقي نداماي من كاسي وأشرب ما
I quench my regrets with wine from my cup and drink
افتح عيونك في الآيات والسور
Open your eyes to the signs and the chapters
يا شمعة هي في كل الفوانيس
O candle that is in all the lanterns
تجلى وجه محبوبي
My beloved's face appeared
هو العظيم الذي علا شانه
He is the Greatest, exalted is His glory
هو الله ربي هو المبتدا
He is Allah, my Lord, He is the Originator
معان بدت فينا حروف سطورها
Meanings appeared in us, letters whose lines
هي الذات التي فوق البراق
She is the essence beyond the brilliant
خفض عدوي في الهوى ومصادقي
My enemies in love and my friends
قلبي لعلم الإله باب
My heart is a door to knowing God
حيا الحيا الوسمي سكان النقى
The beautiful life lived by the people of purity
إن رمت بالمثل التقريب مقتصدا
If you throw a likeness, be frugal
نحن قوم ذنوبنا للأعادي
We are a people, our sins for the enemies
بلغوا الحي من عريب كنانه
Convey to the living tribe of Kinana
يا مثمرا قبل ينبت
O fruitful before sprouting
يا كثير الشوق والشجن
O one so full of longing and lament
إن السيادة والريا
Sovereignty and leadership
نقطة الكون تحت باء الوجود
The point of the universe under the B of existence
لي كاتب يمحو السطور وينسخ
I have a writer who erases lines and transcribes,
عالم الحكمة هذا
This world of wisdom
طلعة كلها جمال
Her beauty is pure radiance
لما تجلى حبيبي
When my beloved appeared to me
بقاب قوسين قم يا صاح وارمي سهم
With my bow curved in a crescent, arise O archer and loose thy arrow,
سنة نبي مختار
The year of the chosen prophet
أحرف في سكونها الإعدام
Letters in their stillness is execution
عالم النطق عالم الأنفاس
The world of speech, the world of breaths
يا من به تتكون الأكوان
O You by whom the universes are formed,
ظن الجهول بأنه مستيقظ
The ignorant thought he was awake
كشفت الحجب عن عيني
My veils unveiled my eyes
شرعنا أحكام حق
We legislated rulings of truth
دب سر الوجود بالمفقود
The mystery of existence appeared with what was missing
يا طلعة من أحب في ذا الكون
O blossom of whom I love in this universe
إنني إن أمت فما أنا ميت
I am not dead if I die
ربي من الماء خالق كل شيء حي
My Lord, creator of all that lives from water
ظهر الوجود الحق في مرآتنا
The True Existence appeared in our mirror
لطائر السر في أوج الرقيقه وكر
The bird of mystery in its highest delicacy has a nest
هذا الإقبال منك والإعراض
This affection from you and this aversion
صريح كلامي في الوجود وإيمائي
My words are frank in existence, and my gestures,
إن الزجاجة عبرة للرائي
The bottle is a lesson for the observer
إن الوجود له ذات وأسماء
Existence has an essence and names
خلني في محبة المحبوب
Let me be in the love of the Beloved
نزل الحديد فكان سيفا قاضبا
The iron descended and became a piercing sword
أنا عندي أن الشهود حجاب
I believe that witnesses are a veil
يا سقى الله لذة الموت لما
Oh, You who quench the sweetness of death when
ألا يا لقومي من غزالة وجرة
Oh my people, from a delicate and precious gazelle
ظهرت ذاتي لذاتي
My essence appeared to my essence
لا تلمني إن السماع يقيت
Blame me not for listening, when it brings
أطوف على ذاتي بكاسات خمرتي
I wander about my essence with my cups of wine,
أنا كل الوجود والكائنات
I am all existence and beings
كل أناس لهم لغات
Every people has its languages
بقية الروح مما كان في التابوت
The rest of the soul from what was in the coffin
بوجودي فغذني يا قوتي
With my existence, nourish me, O my strength,
ملاعب الوهم أمثال الصخور النحت
The playgrounds of illusion are like carved rocks
لهب النار في الفتيلة كالرو
The flame's blaze in the wick is like the soul
هي هذه الحركات والسكنات
These are the movements and the pauses
رأيت الظبى في الحمى راتعات
I saw the gazelles in the protected land resting,
لقد بت من فرط الأسى طول ليلتي
I've stayed awake all night from extreme sorrow
عدم للوجود كالأمواج
Non-existence is like waves
هيكلي سام سليم الشبح
My being is lofty, sound, a graceful specter
يا قليل الصبر والجلد
O you of little patience and endurance
يا من يمد لأخلاق القلوب يدا
O You who extends a hand to purify hearts
إن ديني وملتي واعتقادي
My religion, creed, and belief
إن أعياننا ثوابت في العل
Our essences are eternal truths
شكرت إلهي باللسان تعبدا
With my tongue I thanked my God as an act of worship
كلنا واحد هو الأمر
We are all one, such is the matter
عرجا بي على النقا فجياد
Take me wandering to the meadows green,
أنا كلي منك إنعام وجود
I am entirely from You a boon and existence
لا تظن الله معنا ها هنا في ذا الوجود
Do not think that God is with us here in this existence
قف بي هذا الحمى وهذا النور
Stand with me by this zeal and this light
هبت سحرا فينا
The dawn breathed in us
عدم أحاط به الوجود
Beyond all existence, the Kindly One,
زينة الله في العوالم رمز
The beauty of God is a symbol in the worlds
ذال الذهاب مقيد طلق الشذا
The going is restricted though departure is easy
يا طلعة الشمس أو يا طلعة القمر
O dawn of sun or dawn of moon
قيل لي كن مع الأنام وداري
They told me, go with the people and take care
يا بديع الحسن بالصور
O most beautiful in appearance through images
زمان المصيف ووقت الشتا
The summer's time and winter's hour
عندنا سر عجيب خطرا
We have a wondrous, perilous secret
باطن الباطن ظاهر

يا من ظهرت بنوره الأكوان
O You who appeared with Your light upon the cosmos
هو الكون ثوب والسداء هو الأمر
He is the universe, a garment, and the cloak, He is the command,
اطلب العلم بجد واجتهد
Seek knowledge with zeal and strive
حبي الذي بين موتي والبقا خير
My love that's between my death and life confused
إن شاء مولاي يظهر للذي يختار
If my Lord wills, He will reveal to whom He chooses
يا من يرى ما ظهر وما في السر
O You who sees what's apparent and what's concealed
بدا بدر الدياجي
The full moon rose
قد فاض نور الإله فيضا
The light of God has overflowed
بدت الحقيقة من خلال ستورها
Reality appeared through her veil
كن لمن يدعي الصلاح محبا
Be a lover to the one who claims righteousness
قلوب متى منه خلت فنفوس
When hearts are devoid of Him, souls
أيها اللائم الذي لام جهلا
O you who blame in ignorance
من كان بالله أنسه
He whose companion is God,
ظهر الذي شغفت به الألحاظ
The one whom eyes were enamored of appeared
نحن ضياء الغارب الطالع
We are the rising light of the setting sun
نشأة الروح بالغروب الطلوع
The spirit's rise at sunset like
شموسك يا سلمى علينا بوازغ
Your suns, O Salma, have risen upon us
إن روحي بجسمها مصبوغه
My soul is dyed with its body
يا طالب الكيمياء علمي
O seeker of chemistry, let me teach you
إن للكفر ظلمة في الوجود
Ignorance casts darkness over existence,
نحن إخوان النبي المصطفى
We are the Prophet's brothers, al-Mustafa
بهجة النور بعد وقت الكسوف
The joy of light after the eclipse's time
دخل إلى بيت قلبي بارقه رفرف
A sudden flash entered the home of my heart,
إن القناعة في الدنيا هي الشرف
Contentment in this world is honor
يا من لهجت بشكره
O You whose praise
أهملوني من جهلهم بي وهذا
They ignore me out of ignorance of me, and that
إذا كان كلي دائما يشبه البرقا
If my being is like lightning in its transience
يا من تجلى حتى تملا
O you who has manifested to fill
سمع السمع وهو في الإلتباس
Hearing heard while in confusion
أمسك الحق باليد
Grasp the truth with your hand
في الكون للحق أمثال بها نطقا
In the universe, there are parables of truth
إن روحي بك روح مطلقه
My soul is utterly devoted to you
بالله إذا نفخت في مزماري
By God, if you play my flute
غلام نفسك بنفسك فاقتله يا شمس
Soul, slay yourself with yourself, O Sun
يا جمال الوجود
O beauty of existence
لحي سلمى شدوا الركائب
O companions of Salma, hasten the mounts
ما هذه عندنا الأجسام والصور
What are these bodies and forms that we have,
كل شيء فيه وفي كل شيء
Everything is in Him, and in everything
الكل حق والكل باطل
Everyone is right and everyone is wrong,
مليح كلنا مظهر
Beautiful are we all in appearance
نحن علم الله في الله وما
We are the knowledge of God in God, and none
إنما وحدة الوجود لدينا
We have only the unity of existence,
إن أحبابنا وهم سادة الحي
Our beloved friends, the masters of life,
رفعت ولم أرفع إلى غير منزلي
I was exalted, though not by my own doing,
إن بحر الوجود بالإختلاج
The sea of existence with tumult
فؤادي له في رتبة الحب ما نوى
My heart holds love for you in high esteem
هوى قد أذاب الروح والنفس والجسما
Love has melted my soul, my self, and my body
سلم إن جئت أرض وادي سلم
If you come to the land of the Valley of Peace
في الدال بالإهمال إعمال بدا
In neglecting the letter Dāl is a practice
كن على الصدق مقيما والأدب
Be steadfast in honesty and good manners,
على رغم أنف الحاسدين مقامي
Despite the spite of enviers, my status is sublime
علم عظيم النفع للعالم
Great science of immense benefit to the world
طاب وقتي بلطيف مسمع
My time was blessed with a gentle listener
قف على أيمن الحمى كوقوفي
Stand at the right side of the sanctuary as I stand
وجودكم تتمنوا أنه دائم
Your existence, they wish it everlasting
هو أمر وكل أمر
He is a matter, and every matter,
إني أنا فرضه وتقديره
I am His will and decree,
عيسى بن مريم روحي
Jesus son of Mary is my spirit
هو الوارد القدسي كالسيل يحطم
He is the sanctified stream, like a torrent that smashes
لا رؤية ولا شهود
No sight or witness
في امتزاج الوجود بالعدم
In the intermingling of existence with nonexistence,
كلنا بالتخصيص والتعميم
We are all, through generalization and specification
نظرت إلى وجه الذي الكل هالك
I looked at the face of Him for whom all are destroyed
إن غبت عن عياني
If you are absent from my sight
نحن الذي أين كنا حبنا معنا
We are the ones who loved wherever we were
إنما نحن للإله شئون
We are but matters for God alone
أنا كعبة كل المعاني
I am the Kaaba, to which all meanings
غلب الهوى واستحوذ استحواذا
Love has conquered and taken complete control
أنا النور المبين ولا أكني
I am the Manifest Light though I veil my name,
شخصت عيون قلبها مدهوش
Eyes that held stupefied hearts
نحن من المنسوبين
We are of those who are attributed,
قلبي إلى وجه سلمى مغرم عاني
My heart is enamored with Salma's face, suffering,
آدم نبي واحتجب فيه عن الشيطان
Adam was a prophet and hid from Satan
كل الكلام كلامك يا عظيم الشان
All speech is Your speech, O Most High
إن مولانا كريم
Our Master is generous
إن أهل التمكين في التلوين
Those endowed with the art of painting
أستغفر الله من سري ومن علني
I seek forgiveness from Allah for my secrets and for what is apparent
إني أنا وكذا أنتم بكن فيكون
I am, and so are you, yet we remain
مفرد الحسن تبدى
The beauty of the crescent moon appeared
من عين وجوده ظهرنا من عين
From the eye of His existence we appeared, from an eye
كم ليلة بت في بستان في لوان
How many nights have I spent in a garden of colors,
حقيقة الكل روح الله يهديها
The truth is God's spirit guides them all
لنا الدرة البيضاء والعلم والجاه
We have the white pearl, the flag, and glory
إن تشأ قل أنا وإن شئت قل هو
If you wish, say "I", and if you want, say "He"
ما في الوجود سوى الواحد هو الله
There is none in existence but the One, He is Allah
هما الضدان في الأشياء آلا
The two opposites are in all things, indeed
ربما يكذب حسادي علي
Perhaps my enviers lie about me
وما أظنك تجد من بعد هذا شي
I don't think after this you'll find anything,
لله ليلتنا في صحن صحنايا
Our night belongs to God in the courtyard of our homes
توبة النفس في الهوى أن تموتا
Repentance of the soul in passion is to die
شملتني بثوبها المنقوش
She wrapped me in her embroidered robe
خادم الله يخدم العز بابه
The servant of God serves the Mighty at his door
لا فرق عندي بين الوتر والوتر
To me there is no difference between one guitar string and another
فاز الذي شرب الشراب الصافي
The one who drank the pure wine succeeded,
صح قولي إن السماع دواء
True are my words that listening is a cure
لا ووجه مسفر حاز الجمالا
A face not veiled, possessing beauty
كل شيء لا يرى الرحمن به
Everything that does not see the Merciful
يا مشتغلا بكامل الإيمان
O you who works with perfect faith
أنا الهيكل الذاتي لمظهر قدرة
I am the self-structure of a manifestation of power
نور هذا الوجود بالإيمان
The light of this existence is through faith
فنحت عندنا المليح فاها
The beauty within us has appeared, so rejoice!
أيها الجاهل الذي ليس يدري
O ignorant one who does not know
حوت تعاظم فالتقم
A whale engulfed me once
إنني جمع وفرق
I am union and separation
تمسك بغيب الغيب واترك سواه لا
Cling to the unseen of the unseen and leave all else
صلاتي إليها بل إلي صلاتها
Her prayers to Him, nay His prayers to her,
صدق الكتاب لمن به يتمسك
The Book speaks truth to those who hold fast to it
ساقي يا ساقي
O Cupbearer, O Cupbearer
كعبة الحسن أسفرت بالجمال
The Kaaba of beauty has dawned with grace,
إن قلت إن الوجود نفس
If you say that existence is the same as
مالي لقد أصبحت من نيل المنى
What have I, for I have reached the wishes
معرفتي مخلوقة وهي لا
My knowledge is created, and it
فر يا طائرا إلى ربك
Fly away, O bird, to your Lord
ما الغير إلا بابه المغلق
The other is nothing but its closed door
ألا يا أيها النور الحقيقي
Oh light of truth, I cry
كلانا له هذا الوجود المحقق
We both exist in this realized being
قل لمن قال عن ذوي العرفان
Say to those who slander the enlightened ones,
إن شربي شرب الجمال الهيم
My drinking of the drink of love's distress
يا من تكلم فينا بالذي فيه
O you who spoke ill of us
إنما الإيمان نور
Faith is but a light
يا من تملك بالمحاسن مهجتي
O you who possess my heart with your beauty
لنا أتت منك أبيات محسنة
You sent us well-composed verses
إن كنت تنكر علينا أيها المحجوب
If you deny us, O Veiled One
يا كامل العقل خذ بالنقل لك حلوان
O complete of mind, take from the text for you two doves
صحن صحناء واسع الأطراف
A vast courtyard, a place of virtue and chastity
جميع البرايا هي اليلمع
All creation gleams
كلامنا غير ما تعطى العبارات
Our words are not what the expressions convey
قوم بهم ينفخ الشيطان نفخ الزمر
The devil blows into them like blowing into musical instruments
لو أن من يطلب مولاه
If those who seek their Master
قلبي الذي في ذاتكم يتقلب
My heart that sways inside your being
لمتى أنت في الضلال المبين
For how long will you be in clear misguidance?
قلت للعارف النبيل النبيه
I said to the noble, intelligent knower:
للذنب سر عجيب
Sin has a wondrous secret
صح عندي في منزل الإختصاص
I am an expert in my own home
كلام أهل الله في
The words of the people of God in
كل شيء لنا على التحقيق
Everything is destined for us,
لي في الإله عقيدة غراء
I have a radiant belief in God
ركب الحجاز سرى الحادي بهم ودنا
The pilgrims of Hejaz departed, traveling by night
بتجلى محاسن المحبوب
The beloved's beauty manifests,
ثمرات على غصون الحوادث
Fruits on the branches of events,
كم صورة في قطعة الشمع
How many images are in a piece of wax,
يعلم الحق نفسه بالذي قد
The Truth knows Itself through that which has
لله بالبيت المقدس جامع
In the holy House of God, a sanctuary
ألا فتحقق أن كل استقامة
Behold, every straightness
أنا الوجود كما أني أنا العدم
I am existence as I am nothingness
ثوب صدق المجال فوق قميصي
The gown of truth sits over my shirt
قل لنفس جهلت بين الورى
Say to yourself who was ignorant among people,
قلب المحقق واجد بل فاقد
The heart of the researcher is full yet empty,
من مات يعلم أنك الحق المبين
He who died knows that You are the Evident Truth
حرارة عشقه تعطي بروده
His passion's warmth brings coolness
بنغمة العود لاح لي أثر
The oud's melody revealed to me a trace
هو صبغة العدم الذي هو كلنا
He is the hue of the void which is all of us
لم يفه يا ذا الوجه فم
You do not comprehend, O one with the face, my weeping
طلعت شمس الوجود
The sun of existence rose
محبوب قلبي لاح
My heart's beloved appeared
عجب وما هو بالعجب
Wondrous, yet no wonder!
يا جميل الوجه الذي هو داني
O beautiful face that is close,
من مجيري من فاتر الطرف فاتك
Turn away, my love, from the apathetic
حمائم شوق في الغصون تنوح
Doves of longing coo in the branches,
ظهرت لي يا غيب يا مطلق
You appeared to me, O free unseen one
فريدة حسن وجهها البدر طالع
Her beauty's like the full moon rising
لمائه كلنا أواني
We are all vessels
لربي في السما جود
My Lord's generosity in heaven
نحن المراتب بالوجود مرتبه
We are the ranks of existence ranked
كن عادلا في أمورك لا تكن جاير
Be just in your affairs, do not be unfair
أنا الخلق الجديد
I am the new creation
قلبي بنى فيه الهوى بيت الجمال
My heart, wherein desire built the house of beauty -
بدت شمس الضحى تجلى
The morning sun began to shine
طوبى لمن كشفت بصيرته الغطا
Blessed is he whose insight is unveiled,
قد ظهر مني وجودي
My existence has appeared from me,
إني أنا لست أنا
I am not I
لا خلق أعظم مثل خلق الآخره
No creation is greater than the creation of the hereafter
ألا إنما المخلوق يعرف بالعقل
Indeed, the creation is known through reason,
يا أبا مسلم الفتى الخولاني
O Abou Moslem, the virtuous Khawlani youth
قل لقوم غصبوا أنفسهم
Tell those who wronged themselves
بروق الحي لماعه
The lightning of life flashes,
اصبر على ضر البلايا
Be patient with the harm of calamities,
إن السماع سماع الناي والوتر
The listening to the flute and strings
أنت هو الملفوظ واللافظ
You are the utterer and the non-utterer
رح يا أنا يا فاسد التركيب
Begone, o self, o corrupt in nature
نعم لقلوب العاشقين سرائر
Indeed, the hearts of lovers have secrets
أجهلت قدرك أيها الإنسان
O man, I did not know your worth
قل لمن هام تابعا أوهامه
Tell whoever is deluded by their fancies
سلام عظيم من عظيم تفردا
Greetings of magnificence from the Magnificent Unique
ليس طيب الحياة غير وفاتك
Nothing good in life except your departure,
ومن أعجب الأمر هذا الخفا
This subtlety and unveiling for the loyal
تجلى الزاهر الزاهي
The radiant, shining one has appeared
أشكو من الله إلى خلقه
I complain of God to His creation
وراء هذا الوجود عندي
Behind this existence, I have
مراكب العشق قد أرست على المينا
The ships of love have docked at the harbor
إن الفناء طهارة الإنسان
Annihilation is the purification of man
كل شيء هو خيط أسود
Everything is a black thread
روق الكاسات
The Joy of Cups
من صالحيتنا طرنا بأجنحة
With our wellbeing we flew on wings
لو تجلى عن ناظريك الغبار
If the dust were to clear from your eyes,
ركب شوق بدار قلبي أناخا
Longing settled in my heart's abode
صفا ماء الحقيقة فهو صافي
The water of truth is pure, for it is clear
رأيت خيال الظل أكبر عبرة
I saw the shadow's phantom grow immense
سواكم روى عنكم سوانا روى عنا
Our wine is the same wine you drink, your noble ones are ours, and ours are yours.
أصبحت أنا على مرادك
I have become as you desired
بنا المولى هو الأحرى
Our Master, He is more deserving
يا نسبة أدخلت سلمان في النسب
O lineage that brought Salman into lineage
خليلي ما بال القوافل هكذا
My friend, why are the caravans thus
أنا بالله عارف
I know God well,
مقام بني الصديق ذروة فرقد
The status of the Prophet's truthful companions is the pinnacle,
لله في الكون تحريك وتسكين
God has set in motion and brought stillness to the universe
منبع الأنوار مجمع الأسرار
Source of lights, treasury of secrets
ما لقلبي سلوى لمن باللقا من
My heart has no solace for one I met,
خلت الأكوان ممن هو في قلبي مقيم
The universes are empty of the one who dwells in my heart
رب شخص تقوده الأقدار
Some are led by fate
من يعرف الله فليس يسأل
Whoever knows God should not question
كواكب جرت من السماء
Stars streamed from the sky,
أنت قيد الوجود إن غبت غابا
You exist if you are absent, and if you are present, you are a veil
ذات تبدت في بديع حلاها
A being appeared in the perfection of her beauty
انظر الكل لطيفا
Look, all is beautiful
قضى الأمر وجف القلم
The matter has been decreed, the pen has dried
طاء طيب الطباع في الأقساط
Pure of nature in portions,
اعبد على الكشف وادخل ساحة الإحسان
Worship with insight, enter the realm of beneficence
في الكلب عشر خصال كلها حمدت
The dog has ten traits, all praised
أقسمت عليك أيها المحبوب
I swear to you, oh beloved
ظلمات تقدرت تقديرا
Darkness was predestined
شف ثوب الكائنات
Behold the garment of all creation
حبيبي أنت لي ظاهر
My beloved, you are apparent to me
إن المعشرات أحرف الهجا
The gatherings are letters of yearning
لا تأخذ الخلاق يا قوم
O people, do not attribute
يا أيها الناس خذوا حذركم
O people, beware
أنتم هم المال لي يا سادتي والجاه
You are my wealth, my masters, and my glory,
أنا البرق اللموع وأنت أيضا
I am the bright lightning and you are too
تبارك الله كل الخلق كن فيكون
Blessed be God, all creation, “Be,” and it was
حق بدا في صورة الموهوم
The Truth appeared in the form of the Imaginary
بسط الله لي بساط الوجود
God spread for me the carpet of existence
يا صبا نجد
O morning breeze of Najd
كيف يا قوم يوصف المخلوق
How can existence, my people, describe the created
يا من بالنور لوح ذاتي ماحي
O You who with light erased my essence entirely,
من تجلى له الإله بضر
He to whom God has appeared with harm
كل شيء كما أتى النص هالك
Everything remains as it came, except the face of the beloved, so let it enlighten the seeker
لنور عين الوجود أعيان
The light of existence's essence
إنما وحدة الوجود فنون
Existence is but unity of being
إليك يا غير عني إني أحب المليح
To you, o stranger to my eyes
وجودي وجود الكائنات وإنما
My existence is the existence of all beings
طلع امبدر في دياجي امظلام
The full moon rose in the darkness of night
خذا الروح عني فاتحا منك دنها
Take my soul from me opening thereby its lowliness
دارنا هذه هي الأشجار
This house of ours, it is the trees,
هل تعرفون العدم الصرفا
Do you know absolute nothingness
ظهر الوجود من
Existence emerged from nonexistence
ألا ليت لو جاد لي الحب ليت
Oh, if only true love would come my way
على المحبة من أهواه ألفاني
The one I loved accustomed me to love
ظهر النور من النور ولا
The light emerged from the light, neither
الكون قد أظهر لي بسطه
The universe has shown me its expanse
نحن قوم نهوى الوجوه الحسانا
We are a people who love the beautiful faces,
إن أقبل السعد وزال العنا
If fortune smiles and sorrow departs,
أنا البرق والرب المناجي هو الرعد
I am the lightning and the Lord calling is the thunder
يا رب عبد قد بسط
O Lord, Your servant has extended
إن في قرع المثاني
The rhythmic drumbeats
اذبح النفس بسيف الإجتهاد
Slay the soul with the sword of diligence
كلمات حروفها الأجسام
Words are bodies formed of letters
يا من غفلتم وجوهكم سود
O you who are heedless, your faces are black,
قف ههنا بين العذيب وبارق
Stand here between the sweet herbs and lightning
حضرة الغيب سترها الأشياء
The unseen's presence is veiled by things,
جميع الكون مظهره
The whole universe is His manifestation
رعى الله بستانا بفيجة جلق
God tended a garden in Fijja's valley
هذه الأثواب والخلع
These clothes and luxuries
هو كل شيء في الوجود الواحد
He is everything existent, the One
تستر السر بإفشائه
Concealing a secret by revealing it
هو ما هو وأنا ما هو أنا
He is what He is, and I am what I am not.
إن لم تجد كل حي في البرايا ميت
If you do not find every living being in the wilderness dead,
نحن الملوك الفقرا
We are the poor kings
هلا غنيتم بما غنى به الوتر
Sing with what the lute string sang,
إن شمسي من طاقتي في طلوع
My sun from my power in its rising
انظر إلى الكون وتسطيره
Look upon the universe and its arrangement
ظهرت لقلبي بما قد نوى
My heart has revealed what it intended
كلمتني من كل عقل وحس
You spoke to me with every intellect and sense
تبارك الله ما في الدار ديار
Blessed is God, there is no permanence in the abode,
له الغرب من أوج العلى ولنا الشرق
The West has the heights of glory, and we have the East
جل وجه لاح من خلف النقاب
A radiant face peeked from behind the veil
حملت بنا أم من الأرواح
A mother bore us of the spirits
ظهر الحق للعيان وبينا
The truth has become clear and evident
في كل جنس من الأجناس معلوم
In every kind of people it is known
أنتم هي الجوزة في قشرها
You are the kernel in its shell
إنني غير من أحب وإني
I am not the one I love, though my eye,
هذه نفحة عنبر
This is a waft of ambergris
نوحي على فقدهم يا مقلتي نوحي
We grieve their loss, O my eyes, we grieve
يشرق النور بالمكان القصي
The light shines in this holy place
قد رام فرعون أن يتبع أباه الخضر
Pharaoh wished to follow in his forefathers' path
أنا عبد الغني أي عبد ذات ال
I am Abd al-Ghani, a servant whose
يا جملة الأقطاب
O summation of the poles
ضرري نفع حاسدي بالنقيض
My harm benefits my envious one conversely
عبادة للغافلين تكليف
Worship for the heedless is an obligation,
بنى الكل ثم لهم قد هدم
He built everything, then destroyed it for them,
أنا دائما يا نور كل مليح
I am always, O light of all beauty
صدقتم هي الأكوان تطوي وتنشر
You speak truth, the universes fold and unfold
لي من هوادي المطايا مذ هوت هادي
In meadows where my passion once was calm
العبد يلهو ويغفل
The servant plays and is heedless,
جئنا إلى الحسن المعروف بالراعي
We came to Al-Hasan, known as the shepherd
سلام على الإخوان في حضرة القدس
Greetings to the brothers in the presence of Jerusalem
لقد أوقعت دعوى المحبة في البلا
The case of love has cast me into confusion,
زينة العبد فقره واحتياجه
The servant's adornment is his poverty and need,
بعيد الشبه يا عيني
You are far from alike, my eyes
يا شرفي بأنه يعلمني
O my honor that He teaches me
وذي طلعة عن كل معنى تنزهت
She whose essence transcends all meaning
إن تكن بالله قائم
If you stand with God
كيف أخشى من اللعين اللاهي
How can I fear the accursed distracter
نظرت إليها فاستحلت بنظرة
I looked at her and became infatuated with a single glance,
ونحن أهل الصفا لا نقبل الكدرا
We are the people of purity, we do not accept turbidity
تجمع القوم للأضرار واختبطوا
The people gathered for harm and were confused
ليت شعري مذ كررت نظراتي
I wish I knew, since I repeated my glances,
يا أهل أسفل سافلين
O people of the lowest of the low
يا أمة العشق فزتم بالبصر والسمع
O nation of love, you have excelled in sight and hearing,
إن قوما لم يروا
A people who did not see
كتاب الله جامع كل شيء
The book of Allah encompasses all things
أنا النور المبين
I am the clear light
عن يمين الحي من إضم
From the right side of the beloved, from their union
إلى متى أنت غافل يا أسير الملك
How long will you remain heedless, o prisoner of the kingdom?
شخصت لطلعة وجهك الأشخاص
The features of your face gave character to characters,
يا من يقول بأنه يدري الفنا
O you who claims to know ecstasy
يقولون لا تنطق بما أنت عارف
They say, "Do not speak what you know
جل وجه بنوره الوهاج
A face shining brightly with its glow
إن محسوسات الحواس الظواهر
The sensations of the senses, the phenomena,
إن الوجود بموجوداته امتزجا
Existence merged with its existents
ثلاث عليها يدور
Three things it revolves around
قد أصبح قلبي في وهج
My heart has become ablaze
فؤادي من الأشواق والصبوة امتلا
My heart is filled with passion and youthful folly,
كان فرعون قاصدا تحقيقه
Pharaoh sought to fulfill
نحن أهل العلوم بالإلهام
We are the people of knowledge through inspiration,
يا من جمع الحسن جميعا وحوى
O you who have collected all beauty and contained it,
إن المولى في كل حال معنا
The Lord is with us in every state
نفس بعلوة لا تزال أبية
A lofty soul still steadfast
فيه أنا ميت ومقبور
In it I am dead and buried,
من كان بالعشق مفقود
He who is lost in love
إن النصارى واليهود كلاهما
The Christians and the Jews are both devoid of reason, though reason itself bears witness.
الروح كالريح إن جازت شذا النطف
The soul is like the wind; if it passes by the scent of a bud,
صدقت عباد الله أسماؤه الحسنى
The true servants of God, blessed are His beautiful names,
سرت نسمة أم تلك لمعة بارق
Was that a breeze that blew gently, or a flash of lightning that glimmered?
لنا غرق كلنا في القدم
We all are drowning in antiquity

يا قلب لا تشتغل إلا بمن حبك
Oh heart, toil only for the one who loves you
إن الوجود استعملا
Existence is merely
كن مع الله تر الله معك
Be with God, you will see God with you,
شمس وحي ظهرت في قمري
The sun of inspiration rose in my moon,
فهذه هذه الأبيات أربعة
These are four verses
ليلة ذا القدر ليلة الجمع
The night of power, the night of assembly
أنا صاحب الأمر الإلهي
I am the one with divine command
كل تحريك تراه وسكون
Every motion you see, and stillness,
أيها الشخص الذي قال أنا
O you who said "I am
وجودي جل عن جسمي
My existence transcends my body,
سباني عاقد البند
The one with the slender waist has enthralled me
إياك تشهد غيره ودع العنا
Do not testify to another besides Him, leave complaining
إن جسمي هنا وقلبي هناكا
My body's here, my heart's over there,
لكعبة الوصف ذات قبلها ذات
The Kaaba, with its lofty description, has an essence
إن هذا بعض ما قد ظهرا
This is but some of what's been seen
إن من آيات ربي هو قال
Indeed, among the signs of my Lord, He said:
عم صباحا أيها الطلل
O ruins of the morning,
بستاننا في أراضي النيربين سقى
Our garden in the lands of Neyrben was watered,
اطلب العلم كالذباب إذا ما
Seek knowledge relentlessly like a fly,
تأمل فما فات شيء أتى
Contemplate, nothing that has passed will come again
تحقق فإن الروح في الكل واحد
Verify that the spirit in all is one
دنا كل المنى
All wishes drew near
لا تمش معه كما ترى
Do not walk with him as you see,
انهض بربك لا بنفسك
Rise for your Lord, not for yourself,
إشارات الجمال هي الملاح
The signals of beauty are the sailor,
فرحي يا فرحي يا فرحي
My joy, O my joy, O my joy
للذات ذات وللأسماء أسماء
The essence has an essence, and names have names,
كفة الغيب كفة الحسنات
The scale of the unseen is the scale of good deeds
يا نور هذا التجلي
O light of this epiphany
إني أنا المعني القديم
I am the ancient meaning
شرفي يا شرفي يا شرفي
My honor, my honor, my honor
طرف الذي طلب التحقيق سهران
The one who sought the investigation is sleepless
إن الوجود الحق بي يتلفظ
Existence of truth speaks through me
دم طالبا تاركا دعوى الوصول فما
With pleading ambition, leaving behind the claim of attainment, so
ذو العلم قصر مشيد ليس ينهدم
The one with knowledge, a built palace that does not collapse
أنا كتاب الله في الناس
I am God's book among the people
قطع الجهول زمانه بتغزل
The ignorant cut his time short with amorous verse
ألا يا من بدا فينا
Oh you who appeared among us
مهجة ناظراك قد فتناها
Your gaze has enthralled me
يا من جلا عن ناظري
O you who have revealed yourself beyond my sight
ذو العلم يعرف أن أصل المأخذ
The knowledgeable knows that all beings stem
أسماء ربي مزايا عقدها حلت
قوموا اذكروا الله نور الله يلمع لمع
قد أحاط الوجود بالأشياء
كن غنيا في صورة الفقراء
هذه سلمى لها الأمر العجاب
غنت سويجعة الهوى فوق الروابي
دع المنكرين الجاحدين فإنهم
سرينا من التوفيق فوق نجائب
والله والله ما هذا وجود الرب
لك قد رمت وجودا فأبى
حركات سكنات
لي قصر عالي نصبتو من خشب كالبرج
ترك المراد له فكان مرادا
وجه من أهواه لاح
ما بين سلع وروض بالحمى نادي
بادي حبيبي بشكوى حالتي بادي
حبي وجودي الذي أني به موجود
قل هو الله أحد
أصابع الغيب فينا حركت عوده
أقول لجمعكم يا أهل عصري
الله أنزل حكم أمري
جرد فؤادك عن الأغيار طار الطير
إن الفقير هو الغني بربه
اغسلوا بي نجاسة الوسواس
إشرب من العين لا تشرب من الكاس
أيها الطلعة التي أخذتنا
سريت ولا رد هناك ولا منع
إذا كشفت بأنك فعل ربك جمع
علت بي كعبة الذات البديعه
غني به عبد الغني فيبلغ
يا واصفي أنت في التحقيق موصوفي
لا حيرة في الحق عند ذوي الهدى
كن أنت سابق عليهم لا تكن مسبوق
عشق المليح الغالي
يا أيها البارق الذي برقا
يا من يريد يحب الله بالتحقيق
انفي الحوادث ولا تنفي الوجود الحق
إن الوجود حقيقة لا تدرك
أيها الطالب النجاة أتاكا
ليس لله في الوجود شريك
الناس موصوفون بالأفعال
أُمي جميع المقل يا مقلتي أُمي
أتعبتني بقر الشام
يا طالبا للحجر المكرم
يا سماعا كان من آلته
حولوا عني من الكون لثاما
ارفع يديك إلى السماء تضرعا
موجود معدوم لا موجود لا معدوم
أيها القوم السكارى
خذها إليك لها هدى وبيان
في منزل القرب لما نحن حلينا
انظر لموسى نبي الله يا مفتون
كل شيء به تعلق شيء
يا نسيم الحي عني
قوموا اخبروا عن غرامي يا عريب الحي
معرفة الله عند عارفه
نور وجه الحب أشرق
عجزنا عن مواقع الشكر شكر
ولقد شهدت قبالة الأقصى الذي
بالأجرع من جهات ذاك الوادي
أخ لي بظهر الغيب أرعى وداده
يا من أرومهم بكل مرام
ظهر الوجود بسائر الأشياء
بلاء الأنبياء هو البلاء
حرك الذت آلة الأسماء
ظاهر ومن يعشقه عن رؤيته محجوب
دع جمال الوجه يظهر
أيها الطالع من مشرق أفلاك الغيوب
ألا أيها الحادي لذاك الحمى سر بي
قد أسفر محبوبي
أنت عبد الغني فاقنع بدلق
لا ندرك الله دائما أبدا
يا عقل كم منك قلة الأدب
يا مدعي العرفان فجرك كاذب
يا صاحب الجهل المركب
إذا ظهر نحن غبنا أو ظهرنا غاب
يا مرحبا يا مرحبا يا
أنوار شمس الذات لما لاحت
ذاتي لاحت
نورطه المصطفى منه جيمع الكائنات
قمر الغيب بدا في الظلمات
طريقتنا شرقية قادرية
دللناك يا من أنت ذمي ديننا
ترنمت المثاني والمثالث
لما انثنت ثاء الثنا الموروث
إن الجميع حدود في العقول وفي
لا بد للضيق في الدنيا من الفرج
قد أتينا الحمى على منهاج
من لصب متيم ملتاح
تب منك حين تقول يا فتاح
إن قلت يا روحي لسبوحي
فديتك يا من قد خفيت فلاحا
إن الوجود الحق شيء واحد
قلم يجري له النور يد
طيب الحبائب نفح يا حسنه من ند
قلوبنا بك أبلتها النوى كمدا
لي رتبة العلامة الشهم الأَسد
إن بين الوجود والموجود
نهر القضاء بما يختار خالقنا
لنا طالع الغيب المقدس يا سعد
خالق الكل واحد
أنا كالحرف قائم بالمداد
بحمد الله خلاق الوجود
يا سائق الأظعان
قل هو الله
طوران لي طور أنا
إني أنا بك يا ودود
هذا الوجود الحقيقي الواحد الأحد
كلى تفنيه وتوجده
انظر الكون خارجا من وجوده
عيون العلا نحو السعيد نواظر
أيها الناي عندك الخبر
حروف المباني والمعاني تنزهت
ظهرت في أطواري
قد صرت كلي قلوبا فيه تحتار
يا صبا الأسحار هجت أشواقي
أيا أحمد البدوي أنت أين
حوضي الذي ماؤه طول المدى جاري
يا خبرا عني إذا
إن الغني إلى المولى من افتقرا
خذوا علمكم بالله لا تتأخروا
هذه الآيات والسور
إن العوام كلها موجودة
عيني لغير جمالكم لا تنظر
الحبة السوداء في خده
ألا يا فتى كيلان حف بجحفل
إياك أن تحتقر بين الورى ذره
إن ذلي في حب علوة عز
لحرب نفوسنا قد جاء فارس
إن المحب إذا اختفت أسراره
اسقني من مدامة القدوس
رويدا أيها النفس المراشه
حبسوا طير الهوى في قفص
لو يكون الحظ السعيد رفيقا
يا قطرة بحر أمره الفياض
إن رمت أن تدرك كل المنى
لك الحمد يا رب السموات والأرض
ضل الذي عن ضوء شمسك يعرض
كان أنا سيدي
ملكوت السماء والأرض
من به قد تكاثرت أمراضي
عالم الدينا مجاز كله
نحن عن شمس أمره كالشعاع
حرف عين العمى إلى النور داعي
أزال عن الوجه الجميل قناعه
كل أمر ترجوه من مخلوق
نحن أهل الشام سوط الله في
أيا ساكنين الشرق قد شرقت بكم
العين واحدة والحكم مختلف
أعط طرفا له وللكون طرفا
قمر من فوق غصن نقا
بدر تم لاح في الغسق
الله يفتح كل باب مغلق
ألا إن ذاتي ذات كل الخلائق
ومستورة عنا بها أوجبت هتكي
يا فاضلا فضله يسمو على الفضلا
هو الحب سهم البعد في القلب راشق
يا صاحبي في الرخا وفي الضيق
كل قول على العقول يشق
وجود حقيقي هو الغيب مطلق
لا تظلم الله بما لا يليق
انظر إلى الكون وهو في عدم
هذا الطريق بدا فأين السالك
قولوا لمن مد فكره في الورى أشراك
زجاجتك أشرقت في وسط مشكاتك
حباك الله بالنعما لتشكر
طلعت شمسنا على الأفلاك
جاهل كل من رأى
ربي تجلى بأنواع الخلائق لي
دمعي لخوفك يا مولاي صار دما
يا قلب أحبابنا جسمي بهم بالي
إن قولي مؤيد بالنقول
بنورك أيها الوجه الجميل
ألا فتحقق أن كل
رب فوارة خلال مروج
إن ترم أن تعرف الأحوال
لله في كل ما يبديه تعليل
ليس إلا مظاهر ومجالي
غير الوجود محال
دع من يجادل أو يماطل
الحمد لله لا جاه ولا مال
نفخ روح بالعز صار ذليلا
أنت إنسان خيالي
كم غادة كاملة في حسنها
صفا الوجود فلا علم ولا عمل
يحبني وأنا المعدوم لم أزل
هوى أفنى الوجود فزال رسم
حبي هو الله كم حير باسمه إسم
إلى الله نرفع أمرا ألم
تقول الأجانب عن علمنا
قد هدينا بالخاطر المستقيم
أنا التعين والرب المهين ما
عدم يحيط به الوجود وإنما
ربنا الله شارع الأحكام
إن الوجود الواحد ال
أرسل الله إلينا
قوموا بنا نعشق الساقي لنا يا قوم
إمامنا هو الإمام الأعظم
أهل المحبة في السرور الدائمِ
ليت لو كنت إذا قلت أنا
من أسخط الناس في مرضاة خالقه
قد بالغ في الظهور والكتمان
من كان حبه معه هيهات يلقى حزن
إن قلت لم أقدر ولم أستطع
تعلم حفظ آفات اللسان
أنا في الملاح على اليقين
عين حق إنسانها الإنسان
أنت الذي طول عمري الهم تكفيني
الظاهر أفناني
هوى عين العيون
ما لابن مريم في تلك الأساطين
كلامكم يا عواذل كله مينا
لي وجود بمن يقول أنا
الله أكبر من للعبد يرحمه
يا نديمي إن غابت الناس عني
مرج البحرين إذ يلتقيان
حبيبنا في بديع الحسن حيرنا
إن الخريف هو الربيع الثاني
فر إبليس عن هدى العرفان
يا نافخ الناي هذا النفخ عمن كان
لا تكن إلا لمولاك أنا
يا مدعي للوجود أخطأت عين عين
هذه الكائنات أم هي حانه
إنما نحن ربنا في شئونه
جميع أفعال ربنا حسنه
هذه كل ظاهر هو فيها
سميت ساعة فخذ نطق فيها
لقد أتانا حديث عن مشايخنا
إنني قائم بأمر الله
صبغة الله وجود الله
يا من تقاصر شكري عن أياديه
نقطة النفس فوق عين الإله
لمن أشتكي ما بي وما بي هو الله
سل القلب عن صدق المودة في الذي
أنا العاشق السالي لوجهك يا علو
يا صدق القوم عن جمالك قد رووا
عطشى العتيق من الجديد قد ارتوى
ملك يملأ الوجود
دار ريا يا حسنها دار ريا
أشكر الله خالقي في البريه
إلي الذات سيري في مراتب أسماء
خلاف الوجود الصرف فالعدم الأخ
رؤية الحق رؤية الأغيار
على كشف الغطا كل الولوع
غيم الحوادث حال دون البازغ
لمن طلل بين الأجارع بالي
مراتب ذات في البرية تحكم
هي الحقيقة كل الكائنات لها
ولعت بذاك الحي والمورد الحلو
لا شيء غير الله والأشياء
يخاطب كلا في المناجاة صاحبه
أنا أدرى كنه ذاته
واحد وهو في الظهور ثلاثه
لذة العيش تجعل المر حلوا
ربنا من لطفه لا يدرك
هذا القديم وهذه أفعاله
طريقتنا قل بأقوالها
