1. Some looked with eyes that barely see
And witnessed naught but veils of beauty

2. While others sensed the garden’s fragrant breeze
And asked “What knowledge, what secret is this?”

3. “Tell us, o pearl diver, of the precious pearl
That graced our company and made our birds sing

4. The Praised One shone within our hearts
Revealing herself atop our holy mount”

5. I said “These are the dawning rays of our light
Whose setting lies within us, whose rising is through us

6. Our ascent was towards Truth’s holy presences
And our gifts reached into the Unseen through us

7. Before all time, in eternity’s origin
We gathered as one upon the White Pearl

8. Before the cosmos and the Throne’s creation
We were clouds of the Essence raining our water

9. How can one fated to lowness know our heaven?
When we took rest and shed our burden

10. We left behind the abundant, thrashing seas
So how can people know where we are headed?

11. Lifting the veils from that beautiful face
Making the secret free for all to take

12. Gifts we got from the Merciful’s station
Oh people! Have you understood our ways?

13. Our ways’ symbols you don’t understand, o people!
Your understandings have become chains binding us

14. Our trusted station has been hidden from you
Learned ones! Is there a helper among you?

15. With some of what we know we adorn your religion
While our way remains obscured to you all
