So praise is its disease and remedy

Its feet adorned with its slippers

7. The caravan marched on while it lagged behind
Fearing detachment from them in the wilderness

8. Whenever it hurried, the prisoners of their gaze held it back
Their blindness imprisoned it

9. If it sought faith, they denied it
And appealed to reason and its powers

10. A group that confused the times
With the whims of their souls and doubts

11. Their desires shackled them
So they are destroyed by wealth and status

12. They think misguidance in the soul is integrity
And disregard is attentiveness in their view

13. By the being of the Beautiful, the being of the Beautiful
Whenever you wish, speak to me through its lips

14. It imagined others for the weak folk
So they did not revere it and thought it another

15. It draws near to them, but they flee
Alas! They do not recognize the Divine

16. And other than it from it is like seeing a face
From afar, when perception has strayed

17. One, yet manifold in manifestation
Revealing itself to us, inexhaustible

18. All turn away, yet it is the eye of all
And all to me are turned away from it, bewildered

19. O son of my people, take my case from me
If you are enamored with it, longing

20. Cast off the shell from my words, and let everyone
Whose heart is alive drink the water

21. And look to see all existence as a mirage
Not water, so boast not in it

22. And avoid it, you will not see the likes
Imagined in it, nor forms

23. Be content with the secret that is its essence
Not with it, lest you go astray
