1. The soul is like the wind; if it passes by the scent of a bud,
It becomes pure, but if it passes over a corpse, it becomes foul.

2. It has no control over the body it inhabits;
It conforms to what is already inside.

3. The soul comes from the command of God.
It may inhabit a vile body or an honorable one.

4. At times my Lord destines misery for it
And at others, endless joy.

5. So take refuge in God if you wish to attain salvation through it,
And follow the path of the pious, do not stand still.
