1. I believe that witnesses are a veil
And remoteness and nearness are the same

2. So enter my abode of rapture, O penitents
And beware of doubting whispers

3. This is the path of Al-Mufaddal Taha
So understand, if you have any sense

4. You need no eloquent words here
For whom rejects the meanings, torment awaits

5. So come to the tavern and lift from its door the veil
For it is a splendid door

6. And drink the excess of my wine from my cup
In the midst of my tavern, O beloved ones

7. For me is the drink, while for others
The place of drink is a mirage

8. I am the tavern monk, and these palms of mine
Are cups for those who know

9. And its monks are my subjects by decree
Each supplicant finds his prayers answered

10. The dawn approaches, so drink the early draft
None but you are behind its veil

11. And lift your souls above the cups
In which the drink is green for you

12. It is an ocean while all else is but a wave
It is wine while the wise are confused

13. The deacon of her monastery walks about
Wearing her illuminating clothes

14. And its priests sit among people
In awe of her beauty, dumbfounded
