1. Her beauty's like the full moon rising
I see the gentleness of her being and am awed

2. She appeared and all things seemed to set
So she arose and all things seemed to rise

3. She shone before my eyes, a light, and so
Destroyed all darkness but herself, and dawned

4. And was, and nothing was, as she has always been
The same, while things from her, in her, unfolding

5. With lights of revelation she enthralled me
So I am wholly hers, from her to her entrusting

6. And I have kinds of passion for her typified
As she displays herself unveiled from her cover

7. They slandered saying thrice, four times deceived
With vain invention and fifth time a liar

8. Had they but unified her as they claimed, they would
See none but her in all that comes to be

9. Is there a lad, o heedless folk, I'll guide
To gain what he desires, doors opened wide

10. And enter the abode of might, one knocking
Yes, he it is, if you'll stand fast in piety

11. As I know well, directing your affairs
And yielded all conditions to God, resisting

12. You wish, but only wishfully, her union
So fancy of the same deters and hinders

13. No truth but in the soul's desire, and claims
Of partisans deterred you, barriers forming

14. Where's breach of war? Unlike one who remembers
Nor like the sated, one deprived and starving

15. Who'd marry a beauty offers proper dower
Seeker of honey fears no swelling of bees

16. Gently, wait! Truth has a party and none
Of them but by the truth they are contending

17. They built on purest certainty their being
And they are frozen by the awe, relenting

18. They stayed true in their quest and hope
Each a bold hero to events contending

19. Their time was blessed with His presence
World to them but transient abodes

20. He is their slipper's strap, their glory by Him
Their leader and their followers defended

21. She is the sun whose rays all else surrounding
If it should set, we are the stars ascending

22. With a glance her eye enraptured all creation
No heart but bewildered and amazed

23. My eye beheld her, hers beheld mine
From hers to mine a seer, a hearer binding

24. I loved her, but t'was she who anciently
Loved me, so enmity dissolved, pretending

25. She filled my eyes with sacred lights
And meadows of grace for the gazelles extending

26. All's but shapes impossible, like to
Waves with surges, Water plunging

27. Water's but the Soul, waves are breaths
Plunging, bodies; Soul's the encompassing

28. This decree's the obvious of the unseen
The Essence, beyond all, expanding

29. You speak truth, truth came and falsehood vanished
Idols of imagination vanished

30. And the soul's beloved unveiled her face
Dazzling, men swooned, limbs dissolving

31. How many she enraptured with her love
At mention overflow tear ducts releasing

32. With the ritual prayer she joined my breath
And I attained my wishes, all embracing

33. She bestowed being on all entities with her essence
No being but her being, o contender

34. She lent the universe robes of her attributes
And every lent thing to its lender returning

35. She placed the secret of being in things
All trusts to be restored, Dependable

36. We appeared by her, but by us she appeared
Leveler of realms, here and yonder

37. No religion but love of her for her folk
So many bowing worshippers prostrating

38. To her their prayers wheresoever they face
Their prayer niche her face illuminating

By the soul's water their ablution

40. Continuous washing, cleansing, pursuing
If they mingle with others, 'tis uncleanness

41. Obliging ritual wash, cutting, precluding
If no water be found, they symbolize

42. With good earth's powder, lost in profusion
She's the truth! All else is filth they cleansed

43. From themselves, so terrors are diminishing
Of other they speak not, so they rinsed

44. Their mouths with Her, diffusing, embracing
Of all else, their faces' washing

45. Was to turn from all towards Her advancing
Washing hands of all their deeds and affairs

46. By neglecting all but Her, ambitions
Threefold this washing, triad symbolizing

47. Manifest by it skills not cessating
They wiped their heads of leadership

48. Humility their trait, abasing
They washed their feet standing in service

49. No refusal, advancing, debasing
Glorifying Her beyond describing

50. Hands uplifting, Hers uplifting, facing
Praising Her as befits Her essence

51. In Her seeking refuge from harm and profit
By Her name they stood proclaiming Her speech

52. Not one but by Her in awe and chasing
If they bow, incline to Her completely

53. Hearts humbled, yielding, embracing
If they prostrate, perish yet remain by Her

54. Again prostrating, wonders displaying
Stillness from their sitting in contemplation

55. Struggle ceased, disputing, debating
Freely to Her they surrendered and submitted

56. From all evil She defended, shielding
The people have but their souls as treasure

57. Trading souls brought gains excelling
They spent them in Her passion generously

58. Not ceasing to give from overflowing
They gave the innate gift by which they were shaped

59. Never changing, hearts complying
They fasted from others, breaking fast

60. With Her when set all lights from glowing
On pilgrimage, Her house of might their being

61. Circling in their essence, rotating
They walked upon the circling ground

62. Boasting to Her, skill displaying
When the heart's guidance stone appeared

63. They received, from Her hands conveying
At the plain of Reunion they drew near

64. Halting, barriers nullifying
Their wishes attained at Mina, casting

65. There their worries, vanquishing, slaying
Farewells they bade the Ancient House

66. To their root of knowledge homing
On feast of sacrifice, their souls they slew

67. Sacrifices of nature, betraying
Soul's lust sacrificed, vain pulsing veins

68. Till nothing remains, secreting, preying
In the heart's sanctuary found an orphan

69. Pearl which seekers of Union are conveying
Lost unseen treasure, absence ruled

70. As death, in all affairs waylaying
To revive soul's dead with remembrance necessary

71. So be fertile, cultivating, arraying
Killing the soul's meaning with the Soul requires

72. Retribution by the Sword's sharp flaying
Or accept blood-wit from its attributes for it

73. Judgment contendable, equating
They prepared their souls as fertile ground

74. Master of waters, irrigating, surveying
Their acknowledging the truth, arguments

75. Against all else,kleaving, flaying
Giving their existence capital to Her

76. Profit implied, no loss decaying
An ancient speculation with the One

77. Whose all creations, complying, obeying
If they seized their attributes from themselves

78. Her jealousy attacked them, slaying
Withdrawing their claim of otherness, they vanished

79. Sheltered by Her from recognition betraying
They pawned their hearts to Her for loving debts

80. Unending, what is, what will be, contending
Limits of passion their Lord established

81. Not trespassing, though limits warning
Who claims possession, him a thief

82. Stealing, Truth severing, marring
"Your eyes," She said to Her imam, "Refrain

83. From coveting," so followers complying
Forbidden wine of otherness makes one

84. Face calamities striking and flaying
An unchaste vulva admits not otherness

85. Stoning it with deprivation, preventing
Accusing the deifying slander their punishment

86. Exile's lashes, from sanctuary prying
Piety was Her command to us

87. When ways appeared and paths seemed fraying
By it She gave us piety from Her

88. No existence for ourselves asserting
Content with Her decree, acquiescing

89. Wondrous piety from piety perfecting
They avoided austerity but were austere

90. To all but Her, fraud detecting, deflecting
Of repentance repented, their station

91. Above stations, elevating, respecting
Godfearing from every state before Her

92. To Her, marvels detecting, reflecting
They excelled stages of journey, sufficed

93. By secrets' aspects, not negating, ejecting
They stood by the Holy Essence in the unseen

94. To Her a seal, impressing, subjecting
Their meanings fulfilled in Her words

95. Water of guidance from them streaming
All that seemed to them other than Her

96. Gone, removed, Ever-Living, Ever-Seeing
Otherness phantasy in their reason

97. Like mirage water, appearing yet fleeing
Earth transformed not itself they saw

98. Heavens changed, dawning decreeing
They came forth for the One, the Only

99. By them, She in them, Omniscient, Decreeing
They were as they were in their state

100. Eternal with Her, Beyond being, Seeing
No beginning, their end in Her

101. Vanished in Her seas, Ever-Agreeing
In knowledge thus sequences combine

102. Presence to Her, past and forthcoming
Who knows ancient knowledge sees what I say

103. Though fools decry it, bleating, disagreeing
Hidden knowledge from minds that weave

104. Edifices of dreams, spiderings, misleading
This occurs but by Her teaching, none knows

105. Except those bearing secrets, secreting
What was in Her appears by Her in Her

106. What was not, not occurring, deceiving
We witnessed primal matter's but Her light

107. Shapes manifold by Her shifting, heaving
The color of the arts, azure heavenly

108. Brilliant white, darkest black, verdant, seething
Red hot, then yellow bursting

109. Outer forms from Her, in Her breathing

110. Truth we descend by, truth we descend
The Gnostics truly realized this creeding

111. Naught is truth but One so She is Knower
Known and Knowledge, tri-fold succeeding

112. Hence the multiplicity that led people astray
Fulfilled by Her from Abundance bleeding

113. The paradisal stream, sweet its water
Pipes therein from its spring streaming

114. It is Her Pool, who drinks but once
No thirst or grief or weeping

115. It bars those who indulged desire
Shredding faith for fleeting, misleading

116. Her worshippers filled up on Her their jugs
Stars in skies of learning, far-seeing

117. They light night-travelers to sanctuaries
Meteors ending tyrants' breathing

118. Happy if you win their company, fortunate one
Pleased, solaced, branches fruiting, leaves spreading

119. Be Her servant not one of vain desire
It stamps the heart, impressing, stampeding

120. She is eager in your poverty and pain
None attains but the valiant, combating

121. Crave sincerity, find Her in you not apart
She hastens you to Her from straying

122. The more sincere your love, nearer you drew
Lost ones guided, threading, bead stringing

123. Other meanings dimmed, self's expanse folded
Mind's steed failed, impossible leaping

124. You were as you were before you weren't
She was as She was, Ever-Seeing, Ever-Living

125. Learned of Her essence revealing to Him
In meanings of attributes all interbeing

126. In Him time and space conjoined
How and where, All-Encompassing, All-Uniting

127. His wonders in Him, statues to Him
Measures from Him, duties legitimating

128. From nothingness tending to nothingness ended
Caprice of one mind, fluctuating, oscillating

129. Naught but the Light, the light Muhammad
Dawning from the Light, illuminating

130. Light upon light said our Lord
Interceding for us, alleviating

131. Highest, the Godly Light, magnify naught
Lowermost, humble, debasing, awaiting

132. That's never-fading, this each glance
With annihilation, perpetuation, fluctuating

133. His theophany grants it permanence through Him
Occultation from minds, senses negating

134. The mind's mind, oneness singular
Appearing, hiding, paths initiating

135. The Soul of all, Pen inscribing all
Tablet and Pen preceding creating

136. Throne and Chair taking form through Him
Forms containing them and limbs correlating

137.
In all things mysteries and decrees

138. New creation for veiling accelerating
Flashes from His Holy Essence gleaming

139. Oh for gleam of love from Him radiating
Soul's breezes blew from the meadows of love

140. A lost fragrance of love, oscillating
Their breaths perfumed me, so the worlds

141. Through them smelled sweet, all congratulating
Truth's missionaries rose by me

142. Pacting with the pious, alternating
O people harken to my truth

143. My birds and beauties find love captivating
My basin's filled, my wine exquisite

144. My meadows with fairest treasures awaiting
My adornments long, time favors us

145. Eyes of the age on us contemplating
My joy's cups with ease, my comfort achieved

146. My days, meadows of contemplation sating
Peace be upon me, when I was born

147. And died and resurrected, undulating
