1. The flame's blaze in the wick is like the soul
In the body, and food is like oil

2. That which burns the wick from it
In a blaze like the renowned soul

3. If they removed it, the light shone perceptibly
And with it the house's sides lit up

4. And if they neglected it, the darkness increased
And over the light rose the darkness of loss

5. So take heed, O disciple, of attaining
The Presence of the One who gives and takes life
