1. We are the meanings of existence in Him
And we are the articulation about Him in Him

2. And He has no peer of might
Nor a parallel of glory

3. When He manifests Himself to us in splendor
With His radiant untarnished light

4. And even if we see Him we do not see Him
For we are of a rank below Him

5. And our knowledge is not with anyone
Neither a speaker nor a jurist

6. Neither big nor small
Neither forbearing nor foolish

7. Except a youth who became the grandfather
Of his grandfather and became the father of his father

8. And the body became spirit through Him
By the secret of Allah choosing him

9. And he became singular in the love of the One
Transcending him and his kin

10. And he left no sublime abode
In God without ascending it

11. And he stripped himself of all hopes
And all he used to desire

12. And melted until the features
Of him disappeared and the hidden became manifest in him

13. I advise you drink the cups of my love
And leave what you used to avoid

14. And be wise and understand my words
And refrain from all you know

15. We are those unto whom
The purposes of the eminent prophet came

16. And we are a people, when one
Who does not see his Lord comes to us, we show Him to him

17. And we uncover the truth in the meanings
And in the structures that contain it

18. We see Him in all that we hated
And all that we desire

19. And none among us knows the state
Except the one who came to follow it

20. And our Lord increased us in knowledge
With the light of His noble face
