1. My heart has no solace for one I met,
Whose love has made me drink pure sweetness.

2. Or else my heart is prone to abasement, even if
I swear it isn’t, by the truth of beauty.

3. You are the King of Glory throughout time,
The planting of Your blessings excelled bounty and favor.

4. And with victory You have remained content,
Fearing no misfortune when night falls.

5. Indeed no! Nor do you fear enemies; how
Could You dread them, when Your victory is Your shield?

6. A scent of Your affection pulled us to You,
And a polished Indian sword protected us.

7. Shall I be slaughtered while divine care is my armor?
Whoever envies me has no doubt, in my view,

8. That Your thin, fine swords will prune him.
We are a people graced with beauty manifest,

9. Every one who transgresses against us is doomed,
The pit’s edge is where that one tumbled.

10. No cold turns back the foe once it has raged
It is a sympathy among people that shakes him.

11. Say not that one who insisted on warring will last;
The day will bring the light, wiping out darkness.

12. Whoever sees Him saved has seen the fantasies -
They are like crops in the open country, which,

13. When harvest time comes, are reaped tight.
The House of Guidance has abundant praise;

14. Rely on it, with no effort,
And if you seek refuge beneath its shelter,

15. Then stick close to the gate, humbly hopeful
For people who hold the mystery’s symbol.

16. They are our masters, honorable people,
The family of the Truthful One, the heart of Islam -

17. Would that I might draw near them, gain access!
For they are always houses of revelation,

18. And they are the source of grace and its treasure.
