1. Longing settled in my heart's abode
Or my heart became intimate with passion

2. I had an eastern beloved, so gentle
The essence of life there was most refined

3. With companions beyond compare
They folded it with fine silks and brocades

4. My companionship with them is an old pact
Loyalty in it is free of any breach

5. Never did the plodding camels chant
Except I became utterly enraptured

6. And whenever lightning flashed among them
I was done with this worldly domain

7. Whenever the morning breeze blows
My heart flutters and does not settle

8. O beloved whose love is people's faith
To which the elders have pledged and sworn

9. Absent of essence, present in attribute among us
His name's fragrance is pure musk when diffused

10. His face necessitates annihilation in contemplation
And annihilation in Him washes away all sins

11. In his nearness, I have diaries of passion
Composed by the sweetest calligraphers

12. Do not say his face is veiled from me
He with might never ceased to be proud

13. Rather you are behind a veil from Him
Powerless to witness and perceive Him

14. And hearts are birds nesting in Him
Brooding souls are like little chicks

15. His beauty is still light for the eyes
His epiphany is a haven for hearts

16. O my boon companion in the tavern of the unseen
The unseen is like the eye, never ceasing to see

17. So fill my cup and do not chant
Other than the Only One in whom the only one subsided

18. His command came to me in a spirit
That stood among the ranks of my upbringing

19. He ensnared all hearts with his beauty when
He cast his lassos at them as traps

20. And I am his catch without any nets
No movement, no escape, no screams

21. My palm tree bore the fruit of his love
When my bracelet cast its golden beads

22. Today I stand before him in a state
That would enrapture anyone who wails to him

23. Tell me the story of Hatib among Quraish
And the letter he sent to the verdant valley

24. I am his full moon, not a crescent
His light preceded and transcended me

25. His bright eyes took me in rapture
When he manifested himself to me as a torrential flood
