1. Gather together, my brothers, and rally
For I have an issue that exhausts me

2. I was myself and the day for a time
I am no longer the one I knew

3. That one left me and this one came
Yet in both, it is I, the one

4. And sometimes where clarity required
I rebuke that one and praise this one

5. It is I whom I knew, yet they
Are gone, and truth came, uncontested

6. Or is it that Witnessed One who came to me?
For however He wills, He witnesses

7. Or are they the hands of creatures
Above which, God's hands stretched out?

8. Or is it my soul's sins transformed
To virtues as the corrupt found guidance?

9. Or did Satan who draws his claim
From the Prophet forfeit his legacy?

10. A reality verified by the Speaker
Whose metaphor no longer holds meaning

11. Or is He that Unseen from the first
Whose testimony came to give guidance?

12. And knowledge is of two kinds: remembered
And summoned when it extends

13. And all is from an ancient memorization
To recollection, inexhaustible

14. God's true existence, with affairs
Imposed, white or black

15. And all are passing save Him
While through Him, not with Him, they exist

16. Leave meanings of taste to me, or leave
Leave your knowledge and do not transgress

17. Realize your inner selves and attain
Through unveiling what the guide brought

18. And distinguish what the knower said
From what the skeptic mentions

19. Kohl in the eyes of creation
Is not like kohl in the bleary eye

20. And none who possesses anything thereby
Is like one who borrows to return
