هذه أثوابهم والحلل

1. These are their clothes and robes
I wonder where my people camped

١. هذه أثوابهم والحللُ
ليت شعري أين قومي نزلوا

2. They camped in Kadhima’s valley
It is my heart, and my inner self, and inclination

٢. نزلوا بالشعب من كاظمة
هي قلبي والحشى والمقل

3. So our traces of them faded away
And that original passion appeared

٣. فانمحت من ذكرهم آثارنا
وبدا ذاك الغرام الأول

4. Perhaps Najd, after the mirage disappeared
And Najd faded away when they came

٤. بربا نجد وقد ذاب الربا
وانمحى نجد إذا ما أقبلوا

5. And the meadow’s breeze, without them, would not
Have conveyed news of those who convey

٥. ونسيم الروض لولاهم لما
نقل الأخبار عمن ينقل

6. Neighbors who harmed our passions
And if they harmed, who then makes right?

٦. جيرة جاروا على أشواقنا
وإذا جاروا فمن ذا يعدل

7. Every sun, when it saw them, was eclipsed
Every full moon by their brilliance declines

٧. كل شمس إن رأتهم كسفت
كل بدر من سناهم يأفل

8. This was their rising in our existence
We have no existence, but only ailments

٨. هذه طلعتهم في كوننا
ما لنا كون ولكن علل

9. Did we dress them or did they dress us? So who
Among us is the dressed enveloped one?

٩. لبسونا أو لبسناهم فمن
هو منا اللابس المشتمل

10. A state the gnostic knows well but
He who reasons cannot grasp

١٠. حالة يعرفها العارف قد
غاب عن إداركها من يعقل

11. And by it the wilds were set ablaze
And strange is the vacant preoccupied one

١١. وبها عنها البرايا اشتعلت
وعجيب فارغ مشتغل
