1. O people, do not attribute
Sleep or slumber to the Creator;

2. For the soul may slumber,
And the body in sleep is numb,

3. But God, of body and of soul,
Is far exalted, beyond our understanding;

4. All that is in the heavens,
And they are eternal, everlasting spirits;

5. And all that is on earth,
That is, bodies - this is foreordained;

6. It is He who gives death, for He
Is ever living, eternal, all-sustaining;

7. So when He takes our fathers from us,
And when He gives them life again, this is known;

8. In the Verse of the Throne there is for us
A lesson, a Book inscribed,

9. We have verified the truth with the truth,
And all else is fanciful imagination;

10. With it my drink is sweet Kauthar,
While the drink of the ignorant is boiling water.
