زارني والصباح قد سفرا

وجنح دجنة فيه اغتبقنا

يا من حمت عنا مذاقة ريقها
O you who spared us the taste of her saliva
يا ظبية قنص الأسود جمالها
O gazelle, the lions have captured her beauty
البيض دون لحاظ الأعين السود
The whites without the dark eyes' glances,
قالت كحلت الجفون بالوسن
She said, "You have kohl'd your eyelids with sadness."
أوضحت نار خده للمجوس
The glow of his cheek showed the Magi
قيل إن العقيق قد يبطل السحر
It's said carnelian can undo a spell
جبال بأرياح المنية تنسف
Mountains blown away by the winds of mortality
يغار عليك قلبي من عياني
My heart is jealous of my eyes over you
إن ثنت عنكم الخطوب عناني
If calamities turn away from you,
أهلا وسهلا يا رسول الرضى
Welcome, welcome O messenger of contentment
تنزه عتبي عن خطاك صواب
My reproach refrains from your missteps, that is right,
صاحب السيف الصقيل المحلا
O bearer of the sharp polished sword
يا من له راية العلياء قد رفعت
O you whose banner of glory has been raised
ما زال ظل نداك شامل
Your shadow still protects and covers
يا سمي الذي به اتهم الذئ
O breeze whose name was slandered by the wolf
لولا الهوى ما ذاب من حنينه
Had it not been for passion, his yearning would not have melted,
يا قابض المال الذي لم تزل
O hoarder of wealth, to which my eyes
من كنت أنت رسوله
You were his messenger
وأغن أبدى من مواجب عوده
And he sang eternally from the heights of his lute
فتن الأنام بعوده وبشدوه
He captivated people with his oud and his singing,
بحر من الحسن لا ينجو الغريق به
A sea of beauty from which the drowned cannot escape
جزى الله عنا مالك الرق كاسمه
May God reward Mālik, the owner of excellence, as befits his name,
ومستحلى المراشف سكري
With pillows sweet as sugar, he arrived
أيها المعرض المعرض بالشيب
O you who turn away, rejecting grey hair
بصروا بفروك فازدروك لحالة
They looked upon your youth and scorned you for a state
عذرت مولاي في ترك العيادة لي
I excused my beloved for not visiting me
وليلة في طول يوم العرض
And a night in the length of the day of display
دموعي فيك لا ترقا
My tears in you do not melt,
لا تنطقن عن الهوى
Speak not of love,
تيقن مذ أعرضت أني له سالي
Since I turned away, I was certain that I am done with him
نديمي قم إلى اللهو
My boon companion, arise for revelry,
إذا ابتدأ الساقي وثنى وثلثا
When the cupbearer began with one and two and three,
رب يوم قد رفلت به
Many a day I've whiled away,
يقولون لي قد حرم الراح معشر
They say she has forbidden joy's company
يا ليت شعري وقد أودى بك القدر
Oh how I wish, after fate took you away
أقول لراووق تضمن راحنا
I say to one whose laughter contained our joy
إن كان يمكن أن تشرف منزلي
If my abode could be honored by your presence
سميت عيسى ولم تظفر بمعجزة
You were named Jesus, yet performed no miracles
أيا صاحبا ساءني بعده
O companion whose absence grieved me,
فسد الشرب حين أعوزت الراح
The drink turned foul when the wind lacked moisture
لا تأخذني بجرم من قد غلطا
Do not blame me for the sins of one who erred
أضحى تراث ابن ليلى وهو متسم
The heritage of Layla's son has become worthless though he was generous
هل تعلم ما تقوله الأطيار
Do you know what the birds say
ورد الربيع فمرحبا بوروده
Springtime has arrived, so welcome its flowers
جدت بخط بغير وجه
You were written in a style without a face
لما اغتنى أفقدنا نفعه
When he became rich, he ceased to benefit us,
أمير المؤمنين أراك إما
O Commander of the Faithful, I see you as either
إن كنت قد غبت لا تزرني
Though I'm oft away, reproach me not,
ولما رأينا المنع منكم سجية
When we saw your stern refusal
أيا ملك العصر الذي شاع فضله
O king of the age, whose excellence has spread,
يا مهيني عند المغيب ومبد
O you who degrade me when I'm absent yet
ليهنك أن لي ولدا وعبدا
To celebrate, I have a son and a slave
رضيت ببعدي عن جنابك عندما
I was content with my distance from you when
لما استعرت من المهذب جوخة
When I borrowed a robe from the genteel one
لا تعجبن إذا أتوا بنميمة
Wonder not if they pass on calumny about us
نسيتكم لما ذكرتم مساءتي
When you reminded me of my mistreatment
سقى الله قبرا حل فيه ابن مقبل
God watered a grave wherein lies Ibn Muqbil’s son
قلبي لكم بشروعه وشروطه
My heart is yours with its beginnings and conditions
بدت تختال في ذيل النعيم
She began to strut in the gown of bliss
إقرأ كتابك واعتبره قريبا
Read your book and take heed of it, my friend
إن البحيرة زان بهجتها
The lake adorned its delight
تناسيت وعدي وأهملته
You forgot your promise and neglected it
كفرض الصلاة فروض الصلات
The prayers are obligatory like the obligations of prayers
جن الظلام فمذ بدا مبتسما
The night wore its veil, smiling since it appeared,
يا بياض البياض أنت من الأعين
O whiteness of whiteness, you are of my eyes
تقصر الكتب عن تطاول عتبي
Books fall short of reaching my towering reproach
لا تكن أنت والزمان على عبدك
Do not let yourself and time with separation and aloofness assist
أضربت صفحا إذ أتتك صحيفتي
You turned away when my messages reached you
لسخطك جاءت سكرة الموت بالحق
In your anger the intoxication of death came in truth,
إنما الحيزبون والدردبيس
The Hizbawan, Dardabis,
مجرى القوافي في حروف ستة
The course of rhymes in six letters
عاطنيها ممزوجة بالنبات
Give it to me mixed with plants
مباضع إسحاق الطبيب كأنها
The blades of Isaac the physician are as though
طفيل تقاد بأذنابها
Like mares led by their tails
وشحيح من لؤمه يخبز البخ
The stingy man bakes bread with ashes from palm branches,
أرى فحش الكلام يروع قلبي
I see foul words startle my heart
إذا غاب أصل المرء فاستقر فعله
When a man's origin is absent, yet his deed remains,
لا تكن طالبا لما في يد النا
Do not seek from people's hands what will make the friend ignore you
قناعة المرء بما عنده
A man's contentment with what he possesses
إن الجهول إذا ألزمت صحبته
When I'm forced into the company of the ignorant
لن يقضي الحاجات إلا درهم
No wish is granted save by the dirham's might,
انصح صديقك مرتين
Advise your friend twice,
ومليح له رقيب قبيح
With a fair one watching, foully doth he fare
أقسم الحب أن يبالغ في الصد
My friend, though parted, is ever near
إذا الجد لم يك لي مسعدا
When earnestness brings me no joy,
لا تأمنن إلى الخريف وإن غدا
Do not trust autumn, though the air be sweet
يا رب إن كان ذنبي
O Lord, if my sin
لما رفعت ناركم للساري
When your fire was raised to the banner,
ما زلت أعهد منك ودا صافيا
I still expect pure affection from you
ولئن حكمت أيدي النوى وتعرضت
Though hands of fate decree we drift apart
إني لفضلك بالمديح أجازي
With praise I repay your kindness
ظفرت سهام فواتر الألحاظ
The arrows of the languid glances have triumphed,
يا صاحب الفضل العميم
O friend of boundless generosity
ويوم ضم شمل الصحب فيه
A day when companionship was restored
أود حسادي أن يكثروا
I wish my enviers would increase
فكم صاحب مذ بدا سخطه
How many a friend, when his anger first showed,
ماتت ملاحته يكون لك البقا
His seamanship perished, your existence remains
غني بصوت مثل سوط عذاب
He sang with a voice like the lash of torment
وأهيف مغرى بالجوارح حومت
With eyes that entice hearts though unrevealing,
يا طاهر المأثرات والأصل
O you of pure repute and origin
قم صاح نلتقط اللذات إن ذهلت
Arise, my friend, and gather life's pleasures before they fade away
أقول وقد وافت إلى الصحب كتبكم
I say, and your letters have reached my companions,
كتبت إلي ترغب في حضوري
You wrote to me, desiring my presence
إن كان يمكن أن تشرف بالخطا
If it is possible to be honored by mistake
أفدي غزالا من آل ليث
I ransom a gazelle from the family of lions
أيها الفاضل الذي لفظه الدر
O you of virtue whose utterance is pearls
وحمام رجوت به نعيما
A dove I hoped would bring me bliss
هبوا فقد قد ذيل الليل من دبر
Arise, for night has folded its tail from the rear,
أقلل المزح في الكلام احترازا
Lessen jesting in your speech as precaution
يا سليما من داء قلبي السليم
O Solace for the sickness of my heart, unwavering
أرى فيك يا عيسى الطبيب فضيلة
I see in you, O doctor, a vice
طلبتم يسير المال قرضا فلم يكن
You asked for a small loan that I could not
لا تحسب زورة الكرى أجفاني
Do not think the fawn's visit has made me drowsy,
لعمرك لا يغني الفتى طيب أصله
By your life! Good ancestry avails not the ignoble man,
لا حال في جوهر من جسمك العرض
No condition in the essence of your body transient,
خلياني من قول زيد وعمرو
Leave me be from the talk of Zayd and Amr,
عين حبي أعيذها بالله
My love's eyes, I seek refuge for them in Allah
إذا بلي اللبيب بقرب فدم
When a wise man is distressed by being close to the shedding of blood
أدرها بلطف واجعل الرفق مذهبا
Turn gently the cup, and make gentleness your way,
إني لأعجب من تعقل جاهل
I wonder at the reason of an ignorant man
قد أضحك الروض مدمع السحب
The rain's tear has made the garden laugh,
كم ساهر حرم لمس الوساد
How many a wakeful lover has sleeplessness deprived of touching his pillow,
أيته كالهلال يبدو
I see him like the crescent moon
عودتني بسوابق الألطاف
You have accustomed me with your past kindness
أجزت لسيدي ومليك رقي
I dedicate to my lord and master this narration
شكرت إلهي إذ بلى من أحبه
I thanked my God when the one I love
عيون لها مرأى الأحبة إثمد
Eyes that behold the beauty of loved ones grow dim,
تأمل إذا ما كتبت الكتاب
Contemplate, when you write your book
ظن قومي أن الأساة ستبري
My people thought misery would leave
يا مانحي محض الوعود ومانعي
O Granter of mere promises and Withholder
غير مجد مع صحة وفراغ
Glory cannot be attained without health and leisure,
أصبحت نار وجنتيك رمادا
The fire of your cheeks has turned to ashes,
ما كنت في إحدى الشدائد مرتجى
You were never called upon in times of distress,
سفح المزاج على حميا الكاس
He poured good humor into the wineglass
لا والذي جعل المودة مانعي
No! By Him who made affection a barrier
حملتنا بالمن حملا ثقيل
You burdened us with excessive favors
لي صديق لا يعرف الصدق في القو
I have a friend who does not know truthfulness in speech
لا تلم سيدي فحظي في الأظهر
Do not blame me, my lord, for my luck in life
مثل التيمم للصعيد
Like ablution with sand when no water can be found
زجرت مرور طيركم بسعد
I warned off your birds from alighting at Sa'd,
نلت من ودك الجميل انتصافي
I gained my wish from your gracious affection
شرفت بالأمس بنقل الخطى
You were honored yesterday by the transfer of steps,
وظبي حاز رقي وهو رقي
A graceful gazelle has won my heart and affection
وما اسم تراه في البروج وإنما
And what name do you see in the constellations, rather
تعشقت ليلى من وراء حجابها
I fell in love with Layla from behind her veil
يا مليكا بذكره يفخر المدح
O king, the cities boast of your mention,
عين النضار كناظر العين الذي
The vigour of the young is like sight's vision which
ما بعد بغداد للنفوس هوى
Beyond Baghdad there is no desire in souls
شكوت إليك الجوى
I complained to you of passion
قد أقعدتني عنكم مفاصل
My joints have made me cease to see you all,
اصبر لعادتك الحسنى التي عجلت
Have patience for your habit of kindness which you hastened
نسيت عهودي واطرحت رسائلي
You forgot my covenants and cast off my letters
وشاد يشتت شمل الطرب
A tyrant who shatters the unity of joy
لا تستدل على تغير صاحب
Do not judge a friend's change of heart
تقول لما أن رأت لمتي
When she saw my graying hair
وفى لي فيك الدمع إذ خانني الصبر
My tears were true to me when patience betrayed me,
دارت على الدوح سلاف القطر
The rain clouds circled around the palm tree,
قم بي فقد ساعدنا صرف القدر
Rise with us, for fate has helped us,
كرر اللوم عليه إن تشا
Keep blaming him if you wish
كفي القتال وفكي قيد أسراك
Cease fighting and free the chains of your captives,
قفي ودعينا قبل وشك التفرق
Stay, farewell us before the parting's imminence
وساق من بني الأتراك طفل
A child of the Turks I bring
كنت أخشى عذل العواذل حتى
I used to fear the blame of critics, until
لقد جزت في الصد حد الزياده
You have exceeded the limit in estrangement,
ما دام قلبي مأسورا بأسر علي
As long as my heart is captivated by Ali
راقني من لفظك المستطاب
Your eloquent words have delighted me,
شربنا سلافا بلا آنيه
We drank pure wine without cups
لا تجزعن إذا ارتاعوا لرائحة
Do not worry when they recoil at your scent
وكأن دجلة والرياح
As though the Tigris and Euphrates were
إذا مت فانعيني بخفق مثالث
When I die, then bid me farewell with a thrice fluttering heart,
أيا ابن الكرام الكماة الحماة
O son of the generous, protectors of the protected
ولائي لآل المصطفى عقد مذهبي
My allegiance is to the Prophet's family, the creed I profess
إسمع مخاطبة الجليس ولا تكن
Listen to your companion's words, do not
فضحت بدور التم إذ فقتها حسنا
You outshone the full moons when you eclipsed their beauty,
إخفض جناحا لمن تعاشره
Lower your wing for the one you keep company with
أمر الله أن يطيعك لبي
My heart obeys You as God decreed
لا جاد هطال السحائب بقعة
Not a spot has the rain left untouched
ما تركت العتاب يا مالك الرق
I have not ceased to reproach you, O master of my heart,
وإبرق له نطق عجيب
And lightning with wondrous speech
يا من يعز المال ضنا به
O you who hoard wealth avariciously,
لو أن كل يسير رد محتقرا
If every little effort scorned and slighted
لو غدا أنفك العظيم غدا وه
Were your sublime nose made of wax
شرف الله قدر من
God has honored the worth of one
طاف بالكأس على عشاقه
He passed the cup among his lovers,
ولما سطرت الطرس أشفق ناظري
When I drew the lines, my observer took pity
الشوق أعظم جملة يا سيدي
My longing, O lord, is far greater
رب هجر مولد من عتاب
Many a rejection bred of blame,
ألا يا ملك العصر
O Ruler of the Age!
هكذا إن بنى المنازل بان
Thus if he who builds the mansions ties them,
حداني إلى ما لم يكن من سجيتي
He led me to what was not of my nature
وفاعل أبدع في صنعه
A doer who excelled in his making
ألا بلغ هديت سماة قومي
Deliver thou my greeting to the chiefs of my people
وليس كريما من يجود بموعد
The generous one is not he who promises
سرى نعشه من بعد ما سار غشه
His coffin was escorted when his illusion passed away.
أذكروا لما أروها النديما
They reminisced when the boon companions saw it,
لله خط كتاب خلته دررا
Each line of God's script became precious pearls
لئن كان لي عن حسن وجهك من غنى
Though your beauty's brought me wealth untold,
تعرض بي فقلت إليك عني
He approached me so I said to him about myself
وعدتم وأعطيتم مدى المطل حقه
You promised and gave free rein as long as hope remained,
إذا زرت الملوك فكن رئيسا
When you visit kings, be high-minded
وجنبني حب الكواعب أنني
Spare me the love of fair maidens, for I see
أعود حماركم في كل يوم
I bear your burdens every day
أبد سنا وجهك من حجابه
Reveal your face from behind its veil,
العيد أتى ومن تعشقت بعيد
The feast has come, and my beloved is far away
أتشمخ إن كساك الدهر ثوبا
Do you strut with pride when fate has clothed you
سأثني على نعماك بالكلم التي
I will praise Your bounties with words
قال الحيا للنسيم لما
The snake said to the breeze, when
يا رب إني دخلت بيتك وال
O Lord, I have entered Your house, and he who enters the house of the generous one does not fear his anger against him, nor does he beware of his scheming or wrath. So how can one who has anchored himself in You be afraid, or fear the turning of his fate, when the servant asks for none but the One Who is worthy of pardon, and You are the Most Worthy of it.
ومذ أطفأ الشمع النسيم بمجلس
Since the breeze extinguished the candle in a gathering
خدمتي في الهوى عليكم حرام
My service to you in love is prohibited
وبخيل ينال من عرضه النا
A miser people insult, but his loaf untouched remains.
ضعف رأسي وقلة الإيمان
The weakness of my head and lack of faith
تصدق فإنا ذا النهار بخلوة
Be generous, for today in solitude
وأهرت من الكلاب أخطل
With sharp fangs amongst the dogs Achtel
شكوت إلى الحبيب أنين قلبي
I complained to my beloved of the sighs of my heart
رو عظامي بسلا
Quench my bones with freshly pressed wine,
هويته تحت أطمار مشعثة
His passion lies beneath ragged blankets,
طاف يسعى بسرعة ونشاط
He walked quickly with vigor
ليهنك أني في القراع وفي القرى
To gladden me that I in the hamlets and in the plains,
وحق الهوى ما حلت يوما عن الهوى
By the right of passion, never have I been free of passion
فطر به كاد قلب الدهر ينفطر
A dawn, by which the heart of time almost cracked,
لا يوخذ الجار في الأعراض بالجار
The neighbor should not be blamed for the faults of another neighbor,
طمعي في لقاك بعد إياس
My hope of meeting you after despair
حالي وحالك كالهلال وشمسه
My state and yours are like the crescent moon and its sun
لا بلغ الحاسد ما تمنى
The envier has not attained what he wished
إن عبدا أتاك يلتمس العف
A servant has come to you seeking pardon,
رسائل صدق إخوان الصفاء
The messages of true brothers renew
إن يكن من قميص يوسف قد سر
If Jacob was saddened by Joseph's torn shirt
وأهرت الشدقين محبوك المطا
You revealed both cheeks, affectionate, tying the turban
ما انقطاعي عن العيادة كبر
My absence from visitation is not out of pride,
ومشرق الوجه بماء الحيا
With a face bright as the water of life
قد عهد الجوهر بالحزن
The essence is known through sorrow
لحى الله الطبيب لقد تعدى
God curse the doctor for overreaching
وليلة طال سهادي بها
One night my wakefulness was long
قد أيقظ الصبح ذوات الجناح
The dawn has awakened the winged ones
كم قد أفضنا من دموع ودما
How much tears and blood have we shed
أنكر الصبح دم الليل
The dawn denied the blood of night
لو انك بالقريض قصدت حمدي
If with this poem you meant to praise me
وقهوة يجتلى السرور بها
With coffee joy and cheer abound
أيا رب قد عودتني منك نعمة
O Lord, You have accustomed me to Your grace,
قبيح بمن ضاقت عن الأرض أرضه
How ugly is he whose land is too narrow for him,
قد صبرنا بالوعد منك شهورا
We have been patient with your promise for months,
لئن لم يمض لي حد فكم قد
If my doom is not yet cast, how oft have I
مغانم صفو العيش أسنى المغانم
The fairest life's rewards are the finest spoils,
عجنا على وادي الصفا فصفا
We gathered on Safa valley in harmony
ما كنت ممن يستشيط بسره
I was not one who reveals his secret
توقوا النساء فإن النساء
Beware of women, for women
وظبي من الترك نادمته
The gazelle wept for having fled him,
عود لسانك قول الخير تنج به
Train your tongue to say kind words, through them
تهن بعيدك يا ابن الكرام
Rejoice your feast, O son of nobleness
رأيت في النوم أبا مرة
I saw Abu Mirra in a dream
ما زال كحل النوم في ناظري
The kohl of sleep still lingers in my eyes
عزمت يا متلفي على السفر
You were determined, my companion, to travel
ولقد ذكرتك حين أنكرت الظبى
I remembered you when the antelopes denied
يا مليكا قد طاب أصلا وفرعا
O master whose roots and branches have thrived
في فساد الأحوال لله سر
In the corruption of affairs, God has a secret plan,
بك من حادث الزمان نعوذ
With You we seek refuge from the vicissitudes of time,
أمن حجر فؤادك أم حديد
Is your heart made of stone or iron?
قسما بالذي يحيط بودي
I swear by Him who surrounds my being,
ألآل أشرقت في نحور
Are those pearls shining in throats,
مملوكك اليوم أبو حبه
Your slave today is Abu Hubbih
كثر الله مثل مجدك في الأرض
May God multiply the like of your glory on earth
كفاك تهمي بالنوال وتهمل
Enough of your blame for generosity, yet neglect
بي ظبي حمى ورد خده صارم اللحظ
My love's cheek is protected, stern of glance
ما ملت عن العهد وحاشاي أمين
I have not wearied of the covenant, far be it from me, faithful one!
تاب الزمان من الذنوب فوات
Time has passed by sins forgotten and gone astray
أبت الوصال مخافة الرقباء
Refusing union fearing censors
لا يظنن معشري أن بعدي
My companions must not think that my absence from them today
أخلان المدام هجرتموني
The wine glasses abandoned me
أحب صديقا منصفا في ازدياده
I love a friend impartial in his growth
أين في الحمى عرب
Where are the Arabs in the abodes of love?
أنجوم روض أم نجوم سماء
Are they stars of a garden or stars of the sky?
دب العذار فقامت الأعذار
The excuses arose, so the justifications stood
لم تتبع الأمر إلا كان أو كادا
No matter commands you sought to fulfill
لئن سل الزمان لنا مناصل
If time has severed bonds for us,
كان بدر السماء يكتسب النور
The full moon used to borrow light
قلوا لديك فأخطأوا
They blamed you and were wrong
عذاب الهوى للعاشقين أليم
The agony of passion is painful for lovers,
أستطلع الأخبار من نحوكم
I look for news from your direction
وظبي إنس ذي معان مكمله
A graceful gazelle with meaning embodied
شوقي إليكم والديار قريبة
Longing for you all and home is near
لا زلت سباقا إلى المكرمات
You still hasten to generosity
ومخلق الخدين من صبغ الحيا
With cheeks dyed in the hue of life
يسائلني صديقي عن كتاب
My friend asks me about a book
زمان الربيع
The springtime of life
يا رب أعط العاشقين بصبرهم
O Lord, grant the lovers in their patience
وما بعتكم روحي بأيسر وصلكم
I did not sell you my soul for your easy union
من لصب أدنى البعاد وفاته
He who is closest suffers the farthest when parted
وافى وقد شفع التقطب وجهه
True to character, his haughty frown wrinkled his face,
غيري بحبل سواكم يتمسك
Others hold fast to your rope,
لا يحفظ الصحة أكل الفتى
Eating between drinks won't preserve
بدت فلم يبق ستر غير منهتك
Her veil has lifted and naught remains concealed
حاشاك تسمع في ما نقل العدى
How could you hear the slander spread by the enemy
نصحتك فاصغ إلى منطقي
My advice, so listen to my logic
قلت للكلبتين إذ عجزت عن
I said to the two dogs, when they failed
لا زال ظلك للعفاة ظليلا
Your shadow remains a refuge for the weak,
أشجتك بالتغريب في تغريدها
Your branches stirred with estrangement in their twittering,
حتام لا تضجر يا سيدي
My lord, be not vexed,
أما والهوى لو ذقت طعم الهوى العذري
Had you tasted the sweetness of innocent love,
أراك إذا ما قلت قولا قبلته
I accept whatever you say
ما يقول الفقيه في عبد رق
What does the jurist say of a slave
تصدق فإنا على حالة
Be generous for we are in a state
تركتنا لواحظ الأتراك بين
The gaze of the beauties has left me torn between
قد هتك الدمع منه ما سترا
The tears have uncovered what was once concealed
بشراي قد تنبه لي الطالع السعيد
My good fortune has awakened, the auspicious star is shining,
صبرا على وعد الزمان وإن لوى
Patience for the promise of time though it twist,
وعصر الرضا إني لديك لفي خسر
In the embrace of acceptance, I am at a loss with you
ليس البلاغة معنى
Eloquence is not prolonged speech
ضحكت ثغور حدائق الأرض
The faces of the earth's gardens smiled
وأدهم يقق التحجيل ذي مرح
A bright-bay, flicking-off the tent ropes, playfully prancing,
لو عاينت مقلته دخنة
Had his gaze caught a glimpse of smoke
