1. Give it to me mixed with plants
From the bag, not from glasses
١. عاطِنيها مَمزوجَةً بِالنَباتِ
مِن فَمِ الكيسِ لا مِنَ الكاساتِ
2. Its leaves are true pleasure
And its cups are my comfort
٢. خَندَريساً دِنانُها حُقَقُ العا
جِ وَراحاً كُؤوسُها راحاتي
3. It was not contaminated by mixing water
But maybe followed with Euphrates water
٣. لَم تُدَنَّس بِمَزجِ ماءٍ وَلَكِن
رُبَّما أُتبِعَت بِماءِ فُراتِ
4. It has no veil but the gentleness of thought
That calms the soul at the end of breaths
٤. لا خُمارٌ لَها سِوى لُطفِ فِكرٍ
يَبسِطُ النَفسَ آخِرَ النَسَماتِ
5. A bliss that the bliss of rest did not win
Does an old woman have the charm of a girl?
٥. نَشوَةٌ لَم تَفُز بِها نَشوَةُ الرا
حِ وَهَل لِلعَجوزِ لُطفُ الفَتاةِ
6. It has no limit in Sharia nor did
The speech of the trustworthy forbid it
٦. ما عَلَيها في الشَرعِ حَدٌّ وَلا جا
ءَ بِتَحريمِها حَديثُ الثِقاتِ
7. The ascetics recognized it, so they took it
In pastes and powders
٧. عَرَفَتها النُسّاكُ فَاِتَّخَذوها
في المَعاجينِ وَالجَواراشاتِ
8. They nicknamed it sometimes arouser of thought
And sometimes digester of food
٨. لَقَّبوها طَوراً بِباعِثَةِ الفِك
رِ وَطَوراً بِهاضِمِ الأَقواتِ
9. I said when musk smelled of it
And the mats were saturated with its scents
٩. قُلتُ لَمّا تَضَوَّعَ المِسكُ مِنها
وَاِنجَلَت في ثِيابِها الخَفِراتِ
10. It is the right of whoever spent the night courting you
To be given the daughter of vineyards as bride
١٠. حُقَّ مَن باتَ خاطِباً لَكِ أَن يُع
طِيَ بِنتَ الكُرومِ خَطَّ بَراةِ
