1. Today the pillar of glory was shaken and collapsed
So it is justified that tears of blood should flow

2. No loyal one has wept a tear without blood
Except the next day affection became suspect

3. O what a calamity you have caused to glory
Perplexing the core, and to the hearing of the sublime, deaf

4. Rending clothes without rending hearts by it
Is an ugly trait for one who cares for blames

5. Sorrows have peaked in bidding farewell to a traveler
And the old has become white-haired in his traces out of regret

6. Whoever socialized with people, sorrow would be his goal
Whoever slept more, dreams cannot be blamed

7. Sorrow has killed me, except that my mouth’s speech
Tells the echo of a great calamity’s news

8. So people are surprised when I compose an elegy
Have you ever heard of a dead man who composed poems?

9. Where is the one whose shelter was the hope of his hopeful one?
And whose hospitality was the asylum of his guest?

10. Where is the one whose reputation and joy
Would dispel darkness between kingdoms and gloom?

11. Where is the one who was the best advisor
When the waves of suspicion and greed accumulate?

12. And when problems arise for the kings of earth
He would become the judge they happily judge by

13. Awake, his whisper and thoughts please you
If he spoke you would understand or if you heard him you would get wisdom

14. The Prince has passed away, the pillar of religion, from nations
That he was once their splendor and freshness

15. So we have not seen with him (in his life) blessings in the nights
Until he passed away, so we saw in him retributions

16. He paid the debts of sublime in dignity and held fast
To the rope of Allah, determined and steadfast

17. He would not lean except onto wealth he spends
Upon people, and he oppressed not the horses

18. And he did not move a tongue in harming anyone
Of the servants, nor did he run a pen

19. O supporter of the truth! When its supporter became mighty
And those who were not committed to glory became humiliated

20. You were nothing but a splendid model
Upon the clothes of sublime and glory embroidered

21. Nations whom you were their rain have died for your death
And missing you has led groups of hopeful ones astray

22. You obediently answered the caller of doom when you were surprised by it
Willingly, and you did not see him frowning and stern

23. You have attributed humiliation to a group whom you are their honor
And you have not shot, but it is Allah who has shot

24. Doom has come to you as a guest, so you have welcomed it
And you have been generous to your soul when it was sought of you generosity

25. The nights have bid you safety throughout their course
Until death has cast unto you peace

26. So, it has surprised you gently, making you not taste misery
And you felt through it no pain

27. O son of the Imams, and folk who have risen
Above people, so they became for guidance a sign

28. Your abode on the day of Ashura informs us
Of the near lineage between you and your generous fathers

29. And your epic nature, O son of the Grandson, which yearned for him
So the day of his death from between us was severed

30. Your face, when welcoming, was our qiblah
So your name between us has become an oath

31. And your wealth between the groups was divided
So your sorrow between people became divided

32. We used to console you for the wealth that would be destroyed
So today for you we console glory and generosity

33. A breast of intimacy, accepting from you, would suckle us
So today the suckling infant of intimacy from you has been severed

34. You show humility to the brothers fully extending
Even if you put your feet atop the shoulders of lions

35. You have extended to me of yourself morals and generosity
Until affection between us has become a womb (kinship)

36. So how can we live and life for us has departed?
So if we sleep after him out of sorrow, no wonder!

37. I cry for him, can crying cure a wound?
And even if I mixed my tears with blood, it would not

38. And how can we cry for something that Allah for it
In wealth, family and blessings has set a seal?

39. He passed away and left for us after him a successor
The circlet of sublime through him has become coherent
