1. So let the noble man show patience
When calamities descend in his courtyard

2. Gladdening the soul then saddening in grief
Strait is the expansive chest constrained

3. And show might to enemies, lest
The censors reproach him or disparage

4. The like of you, Nur al-Din, is one whom
No misfortunes disquiet before him

5. You are regal in the kingdom’s realm
And on the day of strife, he has a spokesman

6. Foes fear you when disasters deter them
And show themselves when sorrows confront them

7. With a heart, all of its thoughts are eyes
And a gaze, all of its glances are hearts

8. The hand of harm will never touch you
Its arrows of calamities will never strike

9. After the loss of Pride of the Faith, derision
Rends open bosoms, not just pockets

10. Bounteous, no begging is heard from him
Nor gloom seen on the face of his asker

11. If havoc had snatched him from us
And battles and wars had scattered him

12. Men would stand to defend him
Hearts don armor over their chest plates

13. In white mail so ants of death
Crawl on its surface while it gleams

14. With steeds whenever they rear up
Armor and sword flashing defend them

15. As if stirrups' dust were clouds
Its summits by hilts shaped as storms

16. Pride of the Faith how highly you exalt
Your family when witnessed or absent

17. Despite my anguish you night in a foreign house
And live while in the world a stranger

18. Deprived of you are hopes of glory
As others enjoy the fertile rapture

19. Paupers call you but do not confide
Beggars ask yet you do not answer

20. And people allot charity of praise
While you have no share in their profits

21. You hid from sight - what sun
Radiates with no point to set?

22. So patience O Isaac’s scions, patience
For the Lord of life will reward with grace

23. And solace Nur al-Din in sadness
Firm mountains nearly melt from it

24. What you dread is soon to pass
What you hope for far yet near

25. No permanence exists in the world
But remaining in it is miraculous
