1. The excuses arose, so the justifications stood 
And the darkness appeared, so the lights increased 
١. دَبَّ العِذارُ فَقامَتِ الأَعذارُ
 وَبَدا السَوادُ فَزادَتِ الأَنوارُ
2. It is inevitable that when the darkness increases its illumination  
The moons shine among the stars 
٢. لا بِدعَ إِن زادَ الظَلامُ ضِياءَهُ
 إِذ في الحَنادِسِ تُشرِقُ الأَقمارُ
3. If his moles did not shine on his cheek  
Poetry would not be permissible for me in describing him 
٣. لَو لَم تَلُح شَعَراتُهُ في خَدِّهِ
 لَم تَحلُ لي في وَصفِهِ الأَشعارُ
4. Darkness over its illumination appears as though  
It is a moon with the veil of clouds as its train 
٤. يَبدو الظَلامُ عَلى ضِياهُ كَأَنَّهُ
 قَمَرٌ لَهُ ذَيلُ السَحابِ خِمارُ
