1. With praise I repay your kindness
Vast is the difference between reality and metaphor

2. Your kindness overwhelmed all speech
Beyond prosody and meter

3. If I compose on the beauties of your attributes
I find only the pinnacle of eloquence

4. You mastered the sciences, so they advanced when advanced
And their steeds stride without stumbling

5. You surpassed Hermes, the Chief, and Thābit
In excellence over Tusi and Shirazi

6. Poetry is a garment whose value
None knows after its weaver but the draper

7. You shook the branches of speech and there fell
Pearls, and you lacked no shaker

8. You spread virtues throughout the farthest lands
Experiments you adorned, making Razi remembered

9. You left the knights of speech confounded
As if by virtues you stormed their encampment

10. Whenever they entered into debate or combat
On the day of Tabriz and the day of Barāz

11. They looked at you with devious eyes
As the stork looks askance at the falcon

12. O fulfiller of promises, who acts upon his word
And prevents any gap between word and deed

13. How often I wronged, openly and in secret
Yet you honored and esteemed me

14. O owner of favors whose traces
Affect us like rain upon parched land

15. Egypt's prosperity, though it tomorrow
Grieves your absence, and Iraq consoles

16. You undermined its leaders and it was altered
As if a garment lacking trim

17. What claim has one confined to some attributes
Let alone a passerby making haste?

18. You brought out my poetry in gatherings though
I had hidden it in notebooks and folders

19. After that you sought permission from me
To transmit it, so I thought you a wooer

20. Does the Master seek his slave's permission
Or desire from his Master license to profess?

21. I responded by permitting with utmost
Concision and terseness in service

22. And I allowed Maliki to narrate it from me
Along with all you ascribe to me, citing me

23. Such is the authorization and farewell, for they
Were issued while the sender was most faithful

24. Hoping to be pardoned for his shortcomings
Who can equal your virtues and repay you?

25. If I fall short of requiting what you deserve
With my eulogies, then God is best requiter
