1. The pen slipped from my hand's grasp
Though it is generous, and the page is its race-course
١. طَغى اليَراعُ لِبَسطي في العِنانِ لَهُ
وَهوَ الجَوادُ وَظَهرُ الطِرسِ مَيدانُ
2. So do not blame the pen for its slip
When it flows onto me, for pens tend to slip
٢. فَلا تُؤاخِذ بِطُغيانِ اليَراعِ إِذا
جَرى عَلَيَّ فَلِلأَقلامِ طُغيانُ
