1. The envier has not attained what he wished
He has perished, filled with rancour and spite

2. I do not think Allah will let him achieve
His evil desires against us, not at all

3. He wanted to sow dissension amongst us
But he came with words of our own wanting

4. He told you I had disavowed your love
Correct in wording, but wrong in meaning

5. My darling thought his efforts had pleased me
So he launched attacks to injure and hurt

6. But since he saw my love for you doing good
He did me wrong in deed and thought ill

7. O you who came between two intimate friends
And parted close companions twined as one

8. When we asked you for affection’s sweetest boon
You obliged with union, and obliged again

9. He rejoiced at estrangement after closeness
Whoever exults in love will suffer pain

10. So return with affection, enjoy the sweetness
For this remains, while that will pass away
