1. You forgot your promise and neglected it
And my silence deceived you in that
١. تَناسَيتَ وَعدي وَأَهمَلتَهُ
وَغَرَّكَ في ذاكَ مِنّي السُكوتُ
2. Until the dust of hopes covered it
And cobwebs hovered over it
٢. إِلى أَن عَلاهُ غُبارُ المَطالِ
وَخَيَّمَ مِن فَوقِهِ العَنكَبوتُ
3. So I forgot myself and excused it
Saying I will remember it if I live
٣. فَناسَيتُ نَفسي وَعَلَّلتُها
بِأَن سَوفَ أَذكُرُه إِذ حَييتُ
4. But when it exceeded the limit of hopes
I forgot that I had forgotten it
٤. فَلَمّا تَجاوَزَ حَدَّ المَطالِ
نَسيتُ بِأَنّي لَهُ قَد نَسيتُ
