1. Calamity struck openly, day after day,
As if death is seeking revenge.

2. Whenever I say the crescent is complete,
The hands of calamity have robbed us of moons.

3. O my people, I have not found in misfortune
A person of praise or triumph over it.

4. Every time disasters befall the chest of a loved one,
And I complain of fate.

5. O crescent, when your light was complete,
Death envied it, so it disappeared.

6. A moon, for which the earth hastened to eclipse it,
And so the earth eclipses moons.

7. Its affliction has confused the mind, so you see people intoxicated,
Yet they are not intoxicated.

8. We have not seen before your affliction a full moon
That has made staying in dust a secret.

9. I knew that time, even if unblemished,
Would bring about misfortunes.

10. Except I was deceived that you would remain,
For you were an elusive star.

11. O twig that bent and leaned when
The flowers showed their buds and fruits.

12. We have missed from your good character intimacy
That taught my eyelids to stay awake.

13. A character that resembles a breeze, and gentleness
That took the water’s beauty and potency.

14. O you who left and filled the heart with sorrows,
And emptied the homes.

15. I do not choose to live after your absence,
Except I do not have a choice.

16. Whenever lightning brings your memory,
The clouds send my tears as rain.

17. And when I remember the hours of intimacy with you,
Remembrance kindles a fire in the heart.

18. It is as if remembrance performed pilgrimage in my heart,
So it throws sorrow in it like pebbles.

19. So I will cry over you as long as I live with tears
That my eyelids cannot restrain.

20. My only effort after losing you
Is to send tears and poems for you.
