١. لِيَهنِكَ أَنّي في القِراعِ وَفي القِرى
وَفي البَحثِ حَظّي الصَدرُ وَالصَدرُ وَالصَدرُ
2. And the day of dew and fright, if I solicit the meeting
The sea marveled at me and the sea and the sea
٢. وَيَومَ النَدى وَالرَوعِ إِن أَبِحِ اللِقا
تَعجَّبَ مِنّي البَحرُ وَالبَحرُ وَالبَحرُ
3. When a sea of searching or an event became protracted
The ink falls short and the warrior falls short of it
٣. إِذا عَنَّ بَحثٌ أَو تَطاوَلَ حادِثٌ
يُقَصِّرُ عَنهُ الحَبرُ وَالبَطَلُ الذِمرُ
4. I contend with the horsemen of speech and sometimes
I contend with armies whose warriors are time
٤. أُطاعِنُ فُرسانُ الكَلامِ وَتارَةً
أُطاعِنُ خَيلاً مِن فَوارِسِها الدَهرُ
