في الشتاء العويل والأشجان
In winter there is wailing and lament
أمواكب الذكرى تأنى واهتفي
The processions of memory move slowly, so call out
ذكرى يرددها الزمان الوافي
A memory echoed by time, the faithful one
أهل الحمية والحمية أنتمو
O people of protection, you are protection
أيا واحة في وحشة البيد أنسها
Oasis in the wilderness of distance, I yearned for it
ما كان للعمال يوم لم يكن
A day once was when workers went unseen,
سألوني لم ارتحلت كأني
They asked me why I left
قال لي الحب كيف تعزف عني
Love said to me, how can you turn away from me
صفية في حنانك لي عزاء
Safiya, in your tenderness I find solace
ما شكاتي من الأنام عداء
My complaints are not of people's enmity
وددت أهدي طويل العمر من أدبي
I wish to gift longevity of my manners
لم يفجع الدهر أحلامي ويرهقها
Time has not disappointed my dreams, exhausted them
مؤسس الدولة المرهوب جانبها
The founder of the revered state
أرقصي أيتها الأضواء
Dance, O lights, with the echoing dream
إذن مصر عادت تقتفي مجدها الأسمى
Now Egypt has regained her supreme glory,
حلمت أنك قد أصبحت معتزلا
I dreamt you had become a recluse
أبا البلاد الذي تسمو البلاد به
O father of the country, the country is exalted through you
أمودعي من قبل أن يلقاني
I bid you farewell before we meet
لا ترقبوا مني الدموع رخيصة
Do not expect cheap tears from me
يا آبد البط سباحا بلا وجل
O duck, swimming endlessly without fatigue,
عزاء بهذا الموت يا من فدى مصرا

تنادينا بنكهتها فهيا

لم ينهض الظلم في يوم بإنسان

من مبلغ وطني الحبيب تلهفي
I am a messenger for my beloved homeland
عزيت نفسي وما عزيتها اسفا
My soul finds solace, though solace evades it,
لا الطعنة البكر يوم الثأر تكفيني
Not enough for me the first stab on vengeance day,
سيعيش في هم ويشقى دائما
He who lives concerned with people's worries
مقبل الراحة النكراء مزدهيا
Kissing the nameless palm in rapture
سفارة كافور تعلممنا الهدى
The embassy of Ka'fur has taught us righteousness
أعرفت الحنين في الأرض للشمس
I knew longing on earth for the sun
أيا حرقتي لجلالٍ مضى

يا شعر من ترجو تحسب أنه

لمن النجوم رقصن فوق خميلة

كاد الخريف يموت مثل مماتي
Autumn nearly died like my death
الجلاء الجلاء رددت الأصداء

العيد أنتم إذا ما النجح حالفكم
Eid is you when success has blessed you,
يا مالكا لا عن وراثة شامخ
O a king not by inheritance of a towering ancestry
يا قاصدا مصر في زهو وفي جذل
O you who travels to Egypt in glory and humility
شربنا مذاب النار بعد فكاكها
We drank molten fire after its release,
تبارك الله هل كافور فنان
Blessed is Allah, is Kafoor an artist?
نبئت أنك عن قرب ستسعدنا
I was told you would soon make us happy
إلى الصديق خفاجفي عوالمه

الصيف أين هو الحبيب فما أرى
Where is the beloved summer, for I see no
بني معروف جاحدكم جحود
O sons of Ma'rouf who are ungratefully forgotten
جزيرة النور تحيينا
The island of light greets us
يا حامل الثمر الرفاف من جذل
O bearer of ripe fruit from the palm tree,
هو الاقطاع هل لم تعرفوه
It is feudalism, have you not recognized it
هدر تلكمو الدماء الزكيه
Wasted are those pure sacrificial bloods
أرجال لا ولا شبه رجال
Men in name alone, not men in truth
قالوا طيور تغالي في محبتها
They said birds exaggerate in their love
قالوا تصبر قد يتوب الغادر

اقطعوها وانبذوا من قد دعاها

الله في الحب ألحان واضواء
God is melodies and lights in love
أرشد الله أمة الإسلام
May God guide the Islamic nation
هل للأمير أعز الله حكمته
Does the beloved Prince, may God make his wisdom endure,
أهذا هو الفنان نسمعه فنا

طوبى ومرحى إذا الأحرار جمعهم
