And there were people with lanterns

And there was the poet brought forward, mocking

37. Above what the eyes perceived
He said: That tyrant, who are you? What do

38. Your lanterns mean, is this paradise?
Or have you gone mad? Where is the splendor among you

39. Does such ingratitude meet favor?
The artist replied: I am the poet among them

40. And I am the translator
However difficult the tribulations,

41. I am a heart, hearing and tongue
They are dummies, from them I derive

42. Honor, inspiration and faith
If that despair has seized them

43. Then it burns and consumes me
And it is what transformed dirges into

44. Joyful songs, so their meters reconciled
We did not come, O conspirator, to you

45. Like sacrifices offered to idols
Rather, these lanterns have served

46. The purpose of satire, if the tongue is bound
For one who does not see his subjects in misery
