1. O ladder, it is better that we see you shaken
Than to see a market for war between us

2. O maker of fires as heavens for us
And purifier of man until we believed

3. Do not teach us despair and perhaps patience
You have taught us and refined us and thus created us

4. If you wish us redemption, then be for us
Some of the ransom, so we see happiness and bounty

5. O breeze of the lords when they communed
And art, so they pioneered, build your abode so we were possessed

6. If you remain our guardian, you raised our souls
And to the abyss we descended or else tempted us

7. And if the miserable ones persist in wronging us
Then be the refuge and do not justify wronging us

8. If we become weak, you become weak, and if you fortify
Our hopes, you safeguarded treasure to be gained

9. And there comes a day sacred for life
Where you become the worshipped god of the life we proclaimed

10. Without you it would have been like specters of destruction
In hell, not like visions of bliss

11. So answer a prayer encompassing the wilderness
One who has wronged us and one who has been good to us
