1. Greetings of an expatriate present
Bestowed upon poetry and the poet

2. Imbibed it from the tenderness of existence
Revolving with the orbiting sphere

3. Seeking every great heart
And every enchanting melody

4. Thus completing its missive to beauty
And to captivating art and literature

5. I sent it atop the steed of imagination
Unique in pure splendor

6. Freed from the confines of rhyme
And from the shackle of overt expression

7. To a homeland whose concerns preoccupy me
And whose happiness is always on my mind

8. Nor what was revealed to Moses on Mount Sinai
Nor the anguish of the perplexed scholar

9. Surpasses in beauty what it contained
Of the art of the conquering creator

10. I will await the return of passion and song
Charms to the heart and thoughts

11. And rend it with breezes from the heavens
Wafting gently from my sweet homeland

12. Perhaps I may recite it finding solace
And disseminate it, a publisher's masterwork

13. Songs pulsating with life
Even from visions of times gone by

14. For Egypt is but the miracles of yore
And the inspiration of the magnificent revolutionary

15. Despite the barrenness of time
Poetry and the poet owe it loyalty
