1. Now Egypt has regained her supreme glory,
So fly to her, my heart, and be sated with her kiss.

2. And you, my joy, do not content yourself with only
A poem’s creation, but be for her a boundless hope,

3. And hover around her with visions that restore her
Arts of inspiration that endow her with resolve.

4. Poetry’s fervor, like the sword’s leap in its strokes,
As the fluttering glory and stars find repose.

5. Bring good tidings of dreams until, in rapture,
Dreams bring forth manifold their own melodies.

6. And conceive in it, for life, meanings
Lofty, transcending limit, ever growing.

7. So ring out, lyre of the lords, a welcome
To Egypt, and you yourself bless her, make her supreme.

8. When the people rule, justice itself
Refuses dishonor and injustice.

9. Justice is but for equality alone,
Else all else becomes sin.

10. O nation of the blessed Nile, beware
Lest you gain what you wish and then do wrong.

11. Accept no separation in any guise.
Whoever accepts separation deserves to be stoned.

12. No relics outlast ruin
Better than justice, if you choose it as your towering glory.

13. I protect you from the fancy that becomes
A creed - how many a people fell, honoring illusion!

14. I protect Gamal and the leader Muhammad
With their prudence from your loftiest demand.

15. They seized your share by force before
While fortune raged blindly like a crazed camel.

16. Arrogance flared up, but they returned it humbled
When it was as if maddened, drunk with fever.

17. And here you are, with the new covenant, unfettered
Raising the banners of your resurgence.

18. In every inch of your land a female companion,
Though calamities once murdered it pitilessly.

19. In every sight of your skies a star
That gives light which soothes one who rages.

20. In every part of your countryside a refuge
Where the best talents take shelter or are protected.

21. In every mind of your children motivations
To engender what yesterday was deemed barren.

22. In every heart a lofty rapture
So it blissfully attends to good, though wretched before.

23. The days have changed until it is as though
With their blessings, dreams never left us.

24. It is as if our structures were touched by the Messiah,
Banishing from them terror, sorrow, and sickness.

25. O Egypt, striving and free,
Seize what you have gained today, treasure today!

26. And prepare for the hoped-for tomorrow
Marvels that eclipse all you have hitherto achieved -

27. Brotherhood, organization, knowledge, resolve
And art that shakes the heedless and the deaf.

28. Do not complain of orphanhood's misery, now that
With this victory you have dispelled your orphanhood.

29. Behold, along the path of glory you have seized
A prize that now belongs to all creation.

30. You are for nations the exemplar of guidance,
No people were distinguished or awoke save by you.

31. Blessed is my Lord when He vindicates
A people disdaining a life of misery, despair, and sleep.

32. And realizes that understanding is the capital of her wealth -
Can man accomplish anything when devoid of understanding?

33. And finds sweet the death of the rebel
Slapping him down if he stirs and persists in villainy.

34. Never bargaining with him for a single day
Whoever haggles with tyranny is a criminal.

35. Betraying a sacred heritage of forebears
As though betraying a covenant that cannot be defined or named.

36. Painful as it is for me to be far away
When your bright minarets put away the ladder.

37. Painful, while in my heart is restlessness
Though my separation suffices despite my will.

38. If I come today to offer congratulations,
It is from a deprived heart that exults as it bleeds.

39. But the soul of the free is a wondrous soul
That lives on contradictions, however much in love.

40. It might spurn the limpid honey for fancy,
And love the death of nobility when it disdains the ladder.

41. If I still rebel, true to my pledge,
Then willingly does my proud heart bow to your control.
