Who then have you left among people to sever it?

2. Is the legacy of Saad submissiveness without equal?
To one who has humiliated countries you held high

3. Thieves have surrounded him from every side
And conspirators - so who will benefit him today?

4. We kept you for times of clarity, were we deluded
Or have you only today begun to delude them?

5. My sighs in estrangement from my homeland today
And every tear of anguish I dispense

6. Came pouring like the lava of volcanoes raging
And scorched every plantation while it grazed

7. And found nothing left over from yesterday wholesome
As if yesterday swords that sever it

8. Why my praise, honor and sacrifice
While Egypt suffers - and in what I said is its demise

9. Did my hopes in whom I worshiped fail?
Or are consciences like fortunes - artificially made?

10. I bow my head suffering shame
That I mentioned my afflictions you forbade

11. Who will save the people while miseries soak them
When leaders call them but forbid them?

12. And when the crown in mouths is but derision
Who will repeal our tragedies and curb them?

13. Alas, none remains but the people rising up
Whenever disaster shook and pained the people terribly
