أمير له طلعة طالما
A prince with a radiant visage that has long
يدعو الضيوف بألسن من ناره
He invites guests with tongues of fire
سعى ببابك لا أخل بفرضه
I have sought your door, not neglecting my duty,
أيا ملكا تزف له القوافي
O king for whom rhymes are led like brides
تبكي المروءة شمسا كم جلا كربا
The dignity cries for a sun that has set after shining bright,
ومن رآني والحمار مركبي
He who has seen me riding a donkey,
بك قد تيمنت الملوك الصيد
With you, hunting became auspicious for kings
ما بعد قربك للآمال منتزح
Beyond your nearness, hopes have no delight,
وباخل أطعمني بشره
A miser fed me his crumbs
الخبز فت وزبدنا قد ذابا
Our bread has crumbled and our butter has melted
قد كدت أقطع يوم عيدى طاويا
I almost decided to retire grieving on my birthday,
كم قطع الجود من لسان
How oft the generous cut out the tongue
ومهفهف عنى يميل ولم يمل
Swaying gently away from me, never swaying
لم أنس إذ ودعتني وهي باكية
I shall not forget when she bade me farewell weeping,
أيا سيد الوزراء استمع
O minister supreme, hear my tale of woe,
شمس كما قد تعلمون مقرنز
The sun, as you know, is golden orange
لست أنسى لمشيبي
I do not forget in my old age
كسوتني فروة فر الشتاء بها
You clothed me with a fur coat, so winter fled from me
قالت أراك قد انحني
She said, "I see you have bent low."
جرد اللحظ فكم في كبدي
He drew the moment so how much in my liver
أبا العباس تاج الدين أحمد
O Abu al-Abbas Taj al-Din Ahmad
لم يسر بينهم الخيال لغيرة
Imagination did not pass between them out of jealousy
وقائل قال لي لما أن رأى قلقي
And a speaker said to me, when he saw my anxiety
أثنى علي الورى بأني
The people praised me for not insulting anyone,
أشغال مولانا الوزير كثيرة
Our master vizier's duties abound
سلام كأنفاس الصبا مست الربى
A peace like the breezes of morning has touched the meadows
فضضت عن الدن مسك الختام
I have abandoned the evils of worldly pleasures,
ورعيت هذا الجيش منك بناظر
You have shepherded this army with your watchful eye
وما ضره شن صغير وقد سرى
No harm in petty slander if to his abode
نفد الزيت الذي جدت به
The oil with which you filled
ذابت زبيدة من شوق لسيدها
Zubaydah melted with longing for her master,
لا أجحد المنن التي تلدتم
I do not deny the favors with which you have overwhelmed me,
وذى دمل كالدهر شدة قسوة
With a heart as hard as the cruel ages,
وأصبح بيتي بالحلاوات عاطرا
My house is fragrant with sweets
ورب شخصين قط ما اجتمعا
Many a couple never met
أيا خاضب الشيب حتى متى
O you who dye your hair with henna, for how long
أبا المظفر ما ظفرت بنعمة
O Abul Muzaffar, I have gained no blessing
أيها السائل عني إنني
You who ask about me, I am one
قف نبك أبيات القريض فإنها
Recite the verses of al-Qarid for they are
ثناه إلى أوطانه شوق نازح
Longing for his homeland made the homesick man yearn,
أرى القوم قد ملوا السماحة والندى
I see the people have wearied of gentleness and dew
تخلو همومي بي وأخلو بها
My worries leave me and I leave them
تخفون عني مايزور حاسد
You hide from me what the envious forge
بعثت به نضوا إليك كأنه
I sent it to you as a gift, as if it were
ومملوكة لي كلما رمت وطأها
And a slave girl I have, whenever I visit her
رقيت من الشكوى بنعمة طالب
I have been raised above complaining by the blessing of the seeker
ودائرة في الأرض لا تطعم الكرى
A circle on earth that scorns fate
وعدت بزيت ثم أخلفت موعدي
You promised oil but then you broke your promise
ما أجدر الصالح بالواجب
How worthy is the virtuous of his duty,
نأى بي عن موارده زماني
Time estranged me from its springs,
ذاك الأمير الذي مثله
That prince, who is most deserving
أنا من أين والعمارة من أي
Where am I from, and where is this building from?
نعاوده لحدا بكته الغمائم
We bid him farewell, though clouds have rained tears for him,
غيرتك الأيام سبحان من لا
Time has changed you, glory to Him whom
وكل كتاب لي إلى من بأرضها
To every book of mine in the land of its owner
كان عندي فقراء أحمديه
I had poor Ahmadis
صدقوا قد نظروا الورد مسيج
They spoke truly, for they saw the rose hedge -
وعيشك لم أكد أسلوه كبشا
I hardly made your living a sacrificial lamb
أمولاي لازالت أعاديك في عمى
My assets are still blinding your enemies in blindness
عشقت من ريقته قرقف
I fell for one whose spit was cloves,
كن لي جوابا فلفظي
Be to me a response, my word
وأهيف مثل الرمح عانقت قده
And graceful as a spear I embraced his neck
أرى الثغر بساما بذكرك عاطرا
I see your smile light up mouths like fragrant pearls
ومبخل بالمال قلت لعله
I chided one hoarding wealth, perhaps
وسائل قال لي ومثلي
One asked me, and those like me,
حلم الوزير أحمد أفرط أو
The patience of Minister Ahmed was excessive, or
يمينا لقد سر الإمام ابن إدريس
O blessed one, Ibn Idris was indeed glad
أطنبوا في عرفات وغدوا
They searched long in Arafat, and started early,
مساع غدت في الله تنضى ركابها
Her feet set out for God become purified
رأيت قطوف عفوك دانيات
I saw the bounties of your pardon brought near,
ورجلي على قدر الكساء مددتها
My legs stretched to the length of my gown
يخاف التبر سطوة راحتيه
The prey fears the prowess of its hunter’s palms,
وكان الناس إذ مدحوا أثابوا
When people were praised, they'd repay
مارث لا وأبيك عهد زنادي
The covenant with your father is not forgotten,
بادر العشر عشر كفيك لثما
He eagerly kissed your ten fingers
لله بركتك التي حسنت
Blessed art Thou for Thy smile's sweet grace,
من صفة الجوهر أن يرسبا
The essence bears tranquility
له كف أهان المال فيها
He has a palm that has humiliated wealth in it
نظرت من خلل السج
رسولي شيطان خبير مجرب
ابعث إلي بمشط من شبيبته
يا ساعة البين قد نسيت بما
مازلت رطب لسان
ياابن الخليلي لا عدمنا
هزوا قدودا وانتضوا أعينا
إبعث بذى قرنين من لي به
وكنت على وعد من الطيف برهة
إذا رأت شيبي على صدرها
إن فتوحا جامع شمل الفتن
وأصيد ظل يدرك يوم صيد
تواضع عن مقداره وهو مرتق
حجبت شعاع الشمس فاحترقت جوى
يارب مغرور بدنياه ما
قرنت بالجمعة افتقادك لي
عندي منديل إذا غسلته
عوفيت من جرب به
لو أنني بت ضيفا لابن زائدة
قالت نعبئ حاجة ال
ولا تقل كم كذا تواصلني
أنكروا المعروف حتى
أحسنت لولا عائق
ولست بناس من سطورك روضة
من كل خواض الغمار بلأمة
أنساكم إن كنت أنساكم وما
خذ في مدائح لابن الموصلي تهز ال
وقائل عهده بالناس مذ زمن
من ظن أن السيف يغمد صارما
ذكر المشتاق عهدا قد مضى
من أعلقته للجفون حبائل
أقمت المطامع من نومها
كانت سطورك ترياقا لقيت بها
وصلت ضحيتك التى أرسلتها
جدد سرورا بالشراب القديم
لبست مدائحي قبل التمائم
أهديت لي عنبا سر الفؤاد به
نقر الأغبياء عني شعري
وإذا جليت اليوم در مدائحي
منا المدائح والمنائح منكم
ورقيع يأبى السلام علينا
قد كتبوا عنك ما تصنفه
أعيذك أن أراك بعين شاك
أ آل تميم إن حزني بعده
لي علي خد الحبيب دم
رددت في بذاك الملتقى نفسا
والشعر ليس للابس
ما عائق المتقدمين إلى الردى
لا ذنب عندي لليتي
أبا لملك السليماني فيها
وزائرة وليس بها احتشام
قلبي لفقدك يا خليل كليم
باكرتني بخميلة مطوية
وقد تشبه الحالة الأخرى وبينهما
ذكرت بني والأهوال بيني
إذا أنا يممت الوزير بمدحة
منزلي في ذلك البر
وكانت لك الدنيا فعشت سعيدا
نحن نفديك من السوء فعش
يا عمر الخير أعني فقد
مولاي فخر الدين دعوة خادم
رفلت بها في حلة علمية
لا تأخذن عنها السروج واللجم
لم يعدني محمد مذ تشكيت
خففت عنك زمانا
ولئيم جئته في حاجة
بان علي الكبر
وتحتك برذون يظل بظله
لكم أياد عذاب لي مواردها
تيمن بياسين فحسبك باسمه
صفت خواطر مداح صفت لهم
ثم أتاه شيبه جملة
إذا ضن عني باخل بعطائه
يروم حياته مابين قوم
سقاها فهل أبصرت شمسا منيرة
أعد مدحا كذبت عليك فيه
وفي الروضة الغناء أصبحت مثنيا
أيها الفاضل الذي قصر الفا
يا واحدا في الجود لا
وقد كنت دهرا للمروءة ناشدا
ما الروض بين مفتق ومنمنم
بأبي أهيف القوام تميل البي
أقول وكفي على خصرها
وقد كنت أعزل عنها وفي
فديت الديوك بذبح عظيم
سيدى سيد الأفاضل تاج ال
كلفتني ما لم أطق في الصبا
ولم أدر إلا عند أخذي مضجعي
وهاجرة أذكت على السفر جذوة
ولرب جمع من عداك لقيته
قلت قومي لعلنا ننسج العي
ظننت جني الورد حمرة خده
أشاقك برق بات طرفك شائمه
قف العيس إن وافيت تلك المعالما
ليت من أسبل من شعر ظلاما
أعيذ كمال الدين من شر حادث
قلم الوزير هو الشقيق لبيضه
أخذوا بأطراف الأصابع حاجتي
وسائل عن قصيدة عبقت
منيتها منزلة قد علت
وساقط الهمة في
لك في المجد نسبة وانتماء
حجابه قد زاد في عرضه
يا معرضا عني أص
ياقبحها من عجوز صدرها قفص
لشأني قصة رفعت
أتعرف إخوة شهدوا حروبا
واجعل لهذا آخرا إنه
شهدت دواة الفتح ساعة فتحها
ومقال لو مددتم باعها
أما السماح فقد مضى وقد انقضى
إذا قال لي قائل كيف أنت
يا نابش الشر علينا أفق
إن ثلاثة صحبت ثلاثة
وأرسلوها يققا أو ظلما
لولا الحطيئة هاجاني لقال وما
تقول وعيد النحر أقبل والورى
نصف شهبا قد أرسلتها أهلة
وخلعة إن بدت لون السماء لنا
أمولاي هذا مادح وابن مادح
مولاي شمس الدين يا من ضوؤه
لي من أبيك سقاه الغيث ماطره
فابق مجد الدين عن مج
هبني سراجا طوال الليل توقده
ناديت يا سيف فما
ومالي والإسهاب وهي مناقب
بينا أفارق رجفة مرهوبة
زففت البكر من مدحي
يا لحظه أثخنت قلبي جراح
نجلك القابل للمدح
أمولاي فتح الدين دعوة خادم
قد كنت في شدة بالأمس قد عرضت
قال خذها من يدي تشبه ما
أمولاي قد ضمنت قول كثير
نفق الإكديش يا منتخب
شرثبت على ورد وخد مدامة
أيها الفاضل الأديب يمينا
عالجته بثناء
أقول لعذالي ولم يعرفوا الهوى
أساءت الحمى ولكنها لي
أرى عنب البستان قد آن أكله
ببابك الرحب سراج غدا
إذا تفكرت في حظي وجودك لا
لبيس اللبيس طعام يعاب
الغوث قد أكل الصيام ثيابي
وبيان لمثله يرفع القل
سلام على الصدر الذي عنده قلبي
يا سيد الأمراء العبد منتظر
بين اللواحظ والقلوب
صاح قم إن نسيم الصبح هب
للصاحب الندب عز لا يبيد فقل
عرف الموت قدر من هو طالب
أمولانا ضياء الدين دم لي
يكافيك عني إله السماء
خط في خدك لام
رفضوا الشعر جهد هم ورقوه
يارب صن وجهي عن الكرماء
سألتهم وقد حثوا المطايا
