1. The lamp preceded to spread
Its flame subdues all who outpace it
١. سَبَقَ السِّراجُ إلى امتِدا
حِكَ كُلَّ مَن يَتقدَّمُه
2. Yet your brilliance bedazzles the resolute
Awe of you strikes them dumb
٢. وَسَناكَ مَسْرَجَةٌ لِبا
بِكَ والمَهابَةُ تُلْجِمُه
3. Though it fires their minds
Scarce a thing confounds them
٣. لكِنْ تَوَقُدُ ذِهْنهِ
ما كادَ شَيءٌ يُفْحِمُه
