أنا من أين والعمارة من أي

1. Where am I from, and where is this building from?

١. أَنَا مِن أَينَ والعِمارَةُ مِن أَي
نَ لَقَدْ دَقَّ مِعْصَمِي عَن سِوَارِي

٢. كُلَّ يَومٍ أَقُولُ قَد تُبْتُ عَنها
لَوْ تَهَيَّتْ إرادَةُ الأَقْدارِ

٣. آفةُ الدِّرْهَمِ العِمارَةُ عَافَى اللَّ
هُ مِنها وَآفَةُ الدِّينارِ

٤. وَهْيَ تُشْلِي الحُسَّادَ حتِّى يَثوروا
أَوْ يُثِيرُوا بِسَعْيهِمْ كُلَّ نَارِ

5. And they say at home it is a desire for money,
They lied, oh how destructive in the home!

٥. وَيَقولوا في الدَّارِ مَطْلَبُ مَالٍ
كَذَبُوا أَيُّ مََهْلِكٍ في الدَّارِ

6. And the quarrel of neighbors, this door is my door
And my path, and this wall is my wall.

٦. وَنِزَاعُ الجِيرانِ ذا البابُ بَابي
وَطَرِيقي وَذا الجِدارُ جِدَاري

7. Every day it is as if I and the builder
Are sworn enemies and estrangement.

٧. كُلُّ يَومٍ كأَنَّني أَنا والبَنَّا
ءُ حِلْفَا شَكِيَّةٍ وَنِفَارِ

٨. حَيثُ يَأتي وَخَلْفَهُ كُلُّ نَغَّا
صٍ مِن الطِّينِ مُكْتَسٍ وَهْوَ عَارِ

٩. وَاحِدٌ مِنهُمُ يُرَتِّبُ لِلما
ءِ وَلَمْ يَدْرِ غَيْرَ كَسْرِ الجِرارِ

١٠. والذي مِنهُمُ يُرَتِّبُ لِلطِّي
نِ قُصَاراهُ ثَمَّ كَسْرُ القَصَارِي

11. And when they stand to install the foundations
Half the day passes in the installation.

١١. وَإذا مَا قَامُوا لِنَصْبِ الأَسافِي
لِ تَقَضَّى في النَّصْبِ نِصْفُ النَّهارِ

12. And they strike up conversation amongst themselves and talk
Of strange news.

١٢. وَأَقَامُوا الحَدِيثَ بَينُهُمُ واندَ
فَعُوا في غَرائبِ الأَخْبارِ

13. And you see all of them gesturing with their hands
So our day passes in waste.

١٣. وَتَرَى كُلَّهُمْ مُشِيراً بِكَفَّيْ
هِ فَيمَضِي نَهارُنا في النَِثارِ

14. They broke the long brick and the small one
Is strewn before him in pieces.

١٤. كَسَرُوا الطُّوبَةَ الطَّوِيلةَ والصُّغْرَ
ى لَدَيْهِ مَطْرُوحَةٌ في انكِسَارِ

15. This and the ax of the carpenter, may God fix you,

١٥. ذا وَبَطْرُ النَّشَّارِ أَصلَحكَ اللَّ
هُ فَلا تَنْسَ قِصَّةَ النَّشَّارِ

١٦. وَيَراني منهُ علَى الجَمْرِ غَيْظاً
وَهْوَ لاهِ بالبَرْدِ في المِنْشارِ

١٧. وَقَدُومٌ يَسُنُّ شَهْراً ولا يقْ
طَعُ شِبْراً كَأَنَّهُ أفكارِي

مِنهُ ذا الإسْمُ فاقْتَنِعْ باحتِضَارِي
