1. She mocked me when my hair began to gray
The day she said, like a drunkard would say:
١. هَزِئَتْ بي عِندَ ابتِدارِ مَشِيبي
يَومَ قالَتْ كالسَّائِلِ المَسْروبِ
2. "Where has this grayness descended?" I said "On my head"
She said "This is the dignity of gray hair"
٢. نَزَلَ الشَّيْب أَينَ قُلْتُ على الرَّأْسِ
فَقالَتْ هذا وَقَارُ المَشِيبِ
