أرحتك واسترحت من الملام

1. I let you go and rested from blame,
And from reproach that prolongs discourse.

١. أَرَحْتُكَ واستَرَحْتُ مِن المَلامِ
وَمِن عَذْلٍ يُطِيلُ مَدَى الكَلامِ

2. And I used to love the gazelle's love,
The sick-eyed one, without sickness.

٢. وَكُنتُ أُجِيدُ عَشْقَ الظَّبْي أَلْمَى
سَقِيمَ المُقْلَتينِ بِلا سَقامِ

3. You say, did he flee from Rida's pleasure,
Or does he have beauty other than people's beauty?

٣. تَقولُ أَفَرَّ من رِضوانَ أَمْ ذا
لهُ حُسْنٌ سِوَى حُسْنِ الأَنامِ

4. Beauty was never complete for other than him,
By your father, or for the full moon.

٤. فَما تَمَّ الجَمالُ لِغَيْرِ هذا
ولا وأَبيكَ لِلقمرِ التَّمامِ

5. And the night he visited me and the night spread
On the horizons the blankets of darkness,

٥. وَلَيلَةَ زارَني واللَّيلُ مُلْقٍ
على الآفاقِ أَرْدِيَةَ الظَّلامِ

6. And morning was shy to appear,
So he made it appear with what's under the veil.

٦. وَكَادَ الصُّبحُ لا يَبدو حَياءً
فَأَبداهُ بِما تَحتَ اللِّثامِ

7. They said wine is forbidden, O cup of wine,
And who gave you, O cup of wine?

٧. هُمُ قالوا المُدامُ رُضابُ فِيهِ
وَمَن أَعطاكَ يا كَأْسَ المُدامِ
