1. When I likened him in my words, saying:
No right is lost behind its seeker.
١. لَمَّا تَمثَّلْتُ بِقولي لَهُ
مَا ضَاعَ حَقٌّ خَلْفَهُ طَالِبُ
2. He replied: My praise is not right, nor
Does this worn out simile suit me.
٢. أَجَابَ مَا مَدْحِيَ حَقٌّ ولا
نَاسَبَني ذَا المَثَلُ السَّائِبُ
3. You have lied in your promise to me, so you
Have lied in praising me-both are fabricated lies.
٣. كَذَبْتَ في وَعْدِي كَذا أَنتَ في
مدْحي كِلانَا مُفْتَرٍ كَاذِبُ
