1. A circle on earth that scorns fate
It has no reins, nor does it complain of fatigue

2. It has a hoof that is shod and at times left bare
It may end up close or it may end up far

3. It shows a mouth that's kissed - some of it
Its saliva cools our livers like a chill

4. Some of us reside in it and some pass through
So it gives generously to the generous and obliges the obliging

5. And in it the devils have gotten their share
One descending steeply and one ascending a plateau
