سروا وكأن الليل من بطء سيره

1. They marched as though the night from its slow gait
drew near me, guided by the stars made stand still.

١. سَرَوْا وَكأَنَّ اللَّيْلَ من بطْءِ سَيْرهِ
وَدَاني خُطَاهُ بِالنُّجُومِ مُسَمَّرُ

2. Swords clung in their sheaths, and the hearts of men -
iron itself their souls preferred - saw this.

٢. وَلاذَتْ سُيُوفٌ بِالغُمُودِ وَقد رَأَتْ
قُلُوبَ رِجَالٍ في الحَدِيدِ تُؤَثِّرُ

3. Men created of moist clay were mounted on steeds,
and lions in human form were made to ride.

٣. رِجَالٌ علَى خُلْقٍ مِن الغَيْثِ رُكِّبُوا
وَأُسْدٌ علَى خُلْقِ من الناس صُوِّرُوا
