1. The dignity cries for a sun that has set after shining bright,
Yet it remains shining in good news or has set in the west,
١. تَبكي المُروءَةُ شَمْساً كَمْ جَلا كُرَبَا
وَلَمْ يَزَل مَشْرِقاً بِالبِشْرِ أو غرَبَا
2. And we have cried blood with which we show a hanging robe,
After sunset, so we call to the sun that has not lied,
٢. وَقدْ بَكَيْنا دَماً نُبْدِي بهِ شَنَقاً
بَعْدَ الغرُوبِ فَنَاعي الشَّمْسِ ما كَذَبَا
3. And the life of Noah and the life of a child, its end
To an outcome, so leave off from yourself fatigue,
٣. وَعُمْرُ نُوحٍ وَعُمْرُ الطِّفْلِ غَايتُهُ
إلى نتِهاءٍ فَدَعْ عَن نَفسِكَ التَّعَبَا
4. And the sun of religion has sufficed us with advice,
If only those remaining would take advice from those gone.
٤. وَقَدْ كَفَانَا بِشَمْسٍ الدِّينِ مَوْعظَةً
لَوْ كانَ يتَّعِظُ البَاقي بِمَن ذَهَبَا
