ثناه إلى أوطانه شوق نازح

1. Longing for his homeland made the homesick man yearn,
And the fire of love spread through his being.

١. ثَنَاهُ إلى أَوْطَانهِ شَوْقُ نَازِحِ
وَنَارُ جَوى تَنْبثُّ بَيْنَ الجَوانِحِ

2. A lover's ally hides advice from him,
In love there is no good advisor.

٢. حَلِيفُ غَرَامٍ يَسْتَغِشُّ نَصِيحَهُ
وَلَيْسَ عَذُول في الغَرَامِ بِنَاصِحِ

3. And he longs for the landmarks of Wajrat, his home,
Its lions now tame before the zebras.

٣. وَيَشْتَاقُ مِن أَعْلامِ وَجْرَةَ مَنْزِلاً
غَدَتْ أُسْدُهُ طَوْعَ الظِّباء السَّوَانِحِ

4. I envy them for my conscience, so I said:
Passion has nurtured me until I suspected my own limbs.

٤. أَغَارُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِن ضَميرِي فَيَالَهُ
هَوًى رَابني حتَّى اتّهَمْتُ جَوَارِحِي
