1. My Master, I swear you no longer live in my abode
Like an ember on Eid, except as my guest

2. You’ve become harsh with me, as if fate
Made you stubborn and destined you for me

3. And you, full of spite against me, are like
The hatred in your chest boils in a pot

4. With a mouth that eats away at me
Distracting me from drink or bite

5. And you say this is an ember and you say this is tinder
Yet the word is that of the former

6. And if an ember lights up in my lantern before me
That is a privilege for the kindler

7. Do you see that I’ve grown and also increased in rank
Thus I’ve attained the share of the guided and the misguided?

8. And indeed I have suffered harm from him as an enemy who lodged
