أهدى لك الشوق والتذكار والوصبا

ألا غنيا بالعامرية واطرب
Sing joyfully of Al-Aamiriya and be delighted
أمن ذكر أطلال خلت وتعفت
From the memory of abandoned ruins long neglected
بكى وناح غراما في الهوى ناحا
He wept and wailed intensely in passion's throes
دعاه يعج في حبه لمعاجه
He called upon him, passionate in his love for his darling
أمن بارق أعلاه يبرق يلمح
Do lightning bolts flashing above make your eyelids flicker with tears that flow
ألا احببها وباشرها هبوبا

Your name evokes a picture and dwelling place
قف بالطلول الهمد
Stand still with the beauties of the institute
أترى خرائد في الهوادج أم ظبا
Do I see mountain gazelles in the valleys, or a hyena
فؤاد على جمر الغرام يقلب
My heart keeps tossing on the embers of passion,
خل المتيم في نهج الغوايات
The infatuated one wandered the alleys of sin
سرت من برزخ ناء بعيد
She emerged from a distant, dewy wilderness
ألا هل شجاك الأورق المتغرد
Alas! Did the chirping warbler sadden you
هبت تغرد من فوق الأماليد
She sings gleefully from atop the sand dunes
أشموس أفلاك طوالع
Suns of lofty orbits rise
كم أنت تجحد والمدامع تشهد
How much you deny while tears bear witness
ما بال قلبك زاد في ولواله
Why has your heart grown fonder, though it spurns the blame?
قم يا نديمي أدر ما في القوارير
Rise, my boon companion, and pour what is in the decanters,
يلومني في الحب والحب يعذر
He blames me for loving though love excuses
إلى الله أشكو ما لقيت من الجوى
I complain to God of what I have suffered from love's pain
لا ترث لي غير العقيق عقيقا
Inherit from me naught but weeping, weeping evermore
أصم أذنيه ما يبديه عاذله
He turned a deaf ear to the reproaches of the censor
حشا حشاه الألى بانوا من الطلل
The ruins of past joys bid us to weep,
أبرق الأبرقين أما
The two lightnings flashed while
ألا عج بالمطي على المقام
Oh wonder and saddle the steed at the abode
أغزلان ريم في الهوادج أم دمى
The gazelles of Raim in the valleys or blood
قف واسأل السفح سفح الرمل والبانا
Stop and ask the slope, the slope of sand and shrubs,
خلني أندب الرسم والطللا
Let me lament the abode and its ruins
ثق في الحجا دون الشقيق فربما
Trust in the wise, not the brother, for sometimes
زر للأحبة أربعا ومعالما
Visit the loved ones four times and their landmarks,
سل العرصات والبانا
Ask the caravans and travelers
نعيم تقضى مسرعا في انقلابه
Naeem's delight quickly passed in its reversal
ما لي أرى الدنيا تشوب
Why do I see the world being adorned
أسيان ما في الأيك ناح حمامه
The doves in the valley no longer coo
سباني بتكسير أجفانه
He charmed me with his tender glances,
بريق لاح مؤتلقا
A flash gleamed radiantly,
أوجه أميم ذاك شف به الستر
That veil, with which the bashful one was covered,
طرق الطيف وقد زار وساد
The specter came by at night and robbed me of sweet sleep.
ما كنت أدري أن يكون سعيد
I did not know that Sa'id would reside
أرسما ترى أم ذاك رجع وشام
Is it a drawing I see, or is that his image returning at dusk?
ألا حدثاني عن رسوم المعاهد
Oh tell me about the patterns of covenants
لم يسقط اللوى والمحنا طلل
The passion and afflictions did not subside,
عرج بذات الكور والنسعين
Roam around the palace of curves and flexibility
أعرفت عرصة أرسم أدراس
I knew the plain where I draw my friends,
لمن الهوادج والقبب
For whom are the tents and domes
قفا يا صاحبي قفا
Stop, my friend, stop
أساكنة وادي الآراك أراك
Dwelling in Wadi Al-Arak, I see you
أراك أراك كئيبا أراك
I see you, I see you melancholy, I see you
لمن الحدوج علت على أقتابها
For whom did the curves grow on their stalks,
صرح حديثك في الأحبة وانشد
Speak frankly of the loved ones and recite verse,
ألا ما لي وللأشواق ما لي
What is this yearning that haunts me still
أبعد الخليط ترى الأثل أثلا
Beyond the mixture you see the pure tribe purely
يا برق حي الأبرقين فثهمدا
O lightning, enliven the lightnings and then become still,
عج بالمطي على رسوم البان
Ride swiftly with the steed towards the ruins,
سرت بعد ما خامر القلب ياس
Despair overcame my heart after hope had passed
زر منزلا قاضك البرحا وأولاكا
Visit the home of your judge in the morning and greet him
تهنا أبيت اللعن بالمولود
Rejoice, my abode, be rid of curses,
قفا بمقام للأحبة ماصح
Stop at the abode of the loved ones though it is now desolate,
أغيد كانسات أم بدور
مشارب كأس الحب أحلى المشارب
لمن مربع للبقع فيه يعيب

أمن ذكر أطلال ببرقة ثهمد
قف بالديار مخاطبا واستخبر
عرج فهذا رسوم الأثل والبان
كلف شجته عشية أوطانه
قفا وانظراني كي نزور ونسألا
زارت وثوب الدجى قد كان مسدولا
يا مربعا أخنا عليه بلاؤه
صب له في الهوى شرح وإملاء
نبا عضب السلو نبا
هلا شجيت للحن الشادن الغنج
دعني من التفنيد والتأنيب
أبدر في الكتيبة أم فراح
طرق الخيال دجى وزار وساد
كئيب ما النسيم سرى عليلا
أنوار هل من زورة أنوار
أخنس مهى أم أنجم ودراري
سفرت فكاد تألق الأنوار
ثنت لوداعه الأعطاف يسرا
أَتراه قاسى من الهوى ما قاسى
تعمدني الخطب غمرا وقرعا
يا صاحبي قفا يا صاحبي قفا
أأسطر إعجام تراءت وأحرف
إنسان في الحب صب قلبه لهف
هيج الحب بقلبي وشغف
طيف سرى وثياب الليل أخلاق
أنا موف في جوارك
شغف القلب اشتياقا ونهك
أعذالي أعذالي
أعاذلتي كفي فقد سده العقل
إنما نوح الحمام
