1. Stars appear like full moons their lights emerging
We see a radiant glow constantly emerging

2. I saw them and found them to be like bright moons
Behind their veils their brilliant faces surfacing

3. Oh how I love them! And how apt the position was
When we bid farewell, not ceasing to see them off

4. As we bid adieu, no tears fell from our eyes
Grief stricken, from this pain my tears not welling

5. We complain of the agony of parting, and the affection
Of their glance in the garden of beauty flourishing

6. Our eyes gaze longingly upon them
Our hearts incline fondly towards them

7. And you’d see the sorrows of departure as spoils
The day we bid adieu and they were perishing

8. O flock whose affection will never wane
In passion we shall always meet and departure

9. Who will buy my soul for a kiss from those smiles?
For I will buy and trade

10. My beloved visited after long separation
The caravan had settled, resting

11. She came to me in a dream with her affection
Like a spell, no intercessor intervening

12. Revealing a pearl that kisses her cheek
The purity of her complexion flourishing

13. You’d see the redness of her cheek from shyness
Transform during her embarrassment paling

14. I strengthened her shelters, not clearing the courtyard
For her after the seasons flourishing

15. And I stood at her house after
Friends and traditions started fading

16. What solace when my heart is shattered
From melancholy and grief splitting

17. Don’t be misled by worldly gifts when
Misfortunes can make you lose hope

18. Those nights give to the youth from where
He doesn’t hope, either helping or preventing

19. One fears its calamities, but no precaution
Of a person can prevent what is destined

20. Know that if one lives long in this life
It is a deceitful thing, tricks playing

21. I tested fate and deliberated its matters
I reluctantly accepted what it cooks up

22. My trials showed me that whenever
It fears the decree, it doesn’t lag or delay

23. I heard such scolding and warnings from fate
That no ear has heard before, unprecedented

24. Until I almost know what has been ordained
Before truth surfaces and takes effect

25. While people feel assured by what
Brings them joy, and what makes them worried

26. In this world, good things have consequences
Just like bad things have consequences for the stricken

27. Why would I keep praising the angels
When my praises don’t make them continue correspondence

28. Many have asked for my poems’ daughters’ hands
Constantly asking for them and reading

29. And I see that my poems praising them
Have not been adequate compensation for their high status

30. While years make some poetry obsolete
Catastrophes have not impacted these, preserving

31. And if artistic expression becomes obsolete in the world
My praise for the generous will never lose value

32. Can the composition of a pretentious person
Compare with one naturally gifted and roaming?

33. For some stars shine, some disappear
And some poetry is polished, some rough

34. I bowed down on my face to the King, to the Most High
Prostrating myself in the deserts surrendering

35. A King whose dignity cannot be tarnished
By greed which defiles even Kings when desiring

36. He seeks surplus wealth and strives
To attain it speedily endeavouring

37. He takes down the champions of fate defiantly
As if he himself is the contender

38. He is the hopes and ambitions, just as
In ancestry there lies an antidote and lethal poison

39. He and his brothers have brought glory to praise
For the generous are deserving of praise

40. The six of them, plus the seventh being security
The eighth being glory, the ninth splendours

41. They are like stars amidst the banquets
The brilliance of majesty radiating from them

42. O flower of days and King for whom
The paths of generous deeds have been paved

43. Through you, God established kingdoms
Just as the fingers are affixed to the palms
