From me and from her and the bond of sorrow ruptured

9. By God, I did not remember and recall her
Except that in my heart the fire of passion blazed

10. Neither has my tongue ever slumbered or slept
Except there came to me from her specter a wraith

11. Nor have I ever gone straight to her hut
Except remorse then reproached me for that

12. I make sickness and torment sweet where I am
And my love thrives on torment and sickness

13. As if her face beneath her head-covering
A shining moon behind a cloudy veil

As though a pearl set in her mouth

But the aspirations with which she brushed aside aspirations

28. To the country squire, scion of the benefactor, the untainted King
Whose ancestry the void itself lacks

29. Crowned supreme, his desires are none
But pride, majesty, bounty and grace

30. The dust of his slipper the wish of kings
And the extent of his meaning their cloak

31. His pens have never marched in his registers
Except welfare and bounty originated therefrom

32. Every day of the days he rains upon us
Continually, after them perpetually, his largesse

33. He is the bountiful, and I have not espied any fattened
Equal to him, so when you ascertain him guess!

34. A extractor of the sea of calamities - when
The summits crumble from the wine-pourers' decanters

35. To be hoped for yet feared, such is his way
Like a raincloud wherein lies water and hail

36. A lion on the day of battle, his gadgets are none
But the weapons of the contender and the judge

37. And a blade among God's blades, having none
Of the sheath's instruments but clemency and decency

38. On his coat of mail a lion, on his crown a moon
In his palm a emulator clashing with the billow

39. O you in whom the peak of praise and the bare
Honorable glories combined, sword and pen alike!

Your army reached the land of the Nasnas

Gesturing with its palm, that idol alive!

O best of those the sanctuary and inviolable place contains!
