وبدا بألماسي ثوب ينثني
His garment gleams with diamonds fold on fold
بشرتنا آمالنا بازديار
Our faces shone, our hopes revived,
لقد زارني من بعد حول مودعا
He came to visit me after a long absence
بسوى حماكم لن تراني مقلة
Without your protection I won't stay alive
تبدت لنا بالروم من كل جانب
Through Rome appeared to us from every side
لكل كريم في البلاد أخلة
Every generous man in the land has a friend
بنعتمك العظمى التي جل قدرها
With Your great attributes, exalted is their worth
العام أقبل ممحلا
The year comes heavily laden
تقول لي المرآة ليس بلائق
The mirror tells me it's not proper
يا ابنة القوم ما يضرك فينا
O daughter of the people, what harm to you
فما اسمي في الوجود وما اعتباري
So my name is naught, my worth is naught
هنئتها منحة مباركة
A blessed gift congratulated her
بالشفيع الحبيب خير البرايا
By the beloved intercessor, best of creation
سقوط ألف من العليه
The fall of a thousand honored men
طال سقمي وملني العواد
Long has my illness been, and tired am I of remedies,
يا ريم رامة لم أقل
Oh Reyem, a gazelle who grazes
لا تهمل الكاس حين يحملها
Roses and jasmine in her veins
بك يا نزهة عينا
With you, oh delight of my eyes
لا تنزلن على رياض لاسمها
Do not dwell in gardens no longer named
يا بني العشق ليس نحسب أحيا
O children of passion, we do not count life
ومن طينة كل الجسوم تكونت
And from one clay all bodies were formed
قد أطمع الفكر آمالي لزورته
Hope led my thoughts astray
من لي به من جؤذر فتان
Who is he that allures me,
كأن الشعر روض قد جنته

بحور ندا يمينك في ازدياد

شكرا فإنك قد رزق

قم إلى اللذات واغنم صفوها
Rise and seek every pleasure while life is fresh,
بشراي طالع جلق مسعود
My auspicious star ascended fortunate
يستصحب القوس أخو همة
The bow accompanies a brother of resolve
فواد صبا لم يرجعنه حذار
Fawad's youth did not return to him out of caution

كوكب السعد بالنجاح أنارا

أعصابة الشوق التي
The nerves of longing which
نسيت التي لا أحوج الله سيدي
I forgot her whom Allah does not need
جود الأوائل أغرى في مديحكم
The excellence of the ancients enticed us to praise you
أفديه من قمر أطوافه شغلت
I would ransom him with a moon whose circling preoccupied
بلد قد خلت من الحسن حتى
A land devoid of beauty, to the point
إن آمالنا التي شغلتنا
Our hopes that preoccupied us
نسأل الله أن يفرج عنا
We ask Allah to relieve us
أستغفر الله مني حيث ما هجست
I ask Allah's forgiveness wherever my mind stirs,
دعني من الشعر إن الشعر منقصة

ومقرطق يغني النديم بوجهه

أفديهما أخوين كل منهما

الهي من يقيل عثار مثلي

آلى الزمان عليه أن يواليكا

By my noble wild gazelle, tender and fawn,
إليك لقد وجهت مولاي وجهتي
To you my Master I direct my face
العبد عبدك يا من أنت سيده
O servant, you are the servant of the One who is your Master
الديه نهب النفوس مباح
Plundering souls is permitted without blood money
ما ينبت الحسن أو ما تجلب السفن
Neither beauty grows, nor do ships bring
وفتاك اللواحظ عسكري
Your alluring glances are like an army
أحمد ابني إليك طال اشتياقي
Ahmad my son, to you has my longing grown long
فضح الشمس بالضياء بهاؤه
The sun revealed its splendor with its light
ولرب ليل برقه
By the Lord of the night whose lightning
من جرب الدهر يدري إن حالته
Whoever experienced time knows well
خفض عليك فما الفؤاد بسالي
My heart is not tranquil over you, so tears stand still for the dweller of ruins
لي حبيب فداه كل حبيب
I have a beloved, my life for his sake
ورضة أنس بات فيها ابن أيكة
A garden of delight where the son of Aykah dwelled,
نيه جفونك من نعاسك
Shake off the drowsiness from your eyelids
صاد الأسود بمقلة وسناء
The blacks hunted with their eyelids and teeth,

The heart does not choose from those you see
ومن عجيب الأمور عندي

تخذ الجور والجناية عاده

We have endured time's fearful blows
القوم مضوا إلى المنايا زمرا

جادت عليك يد الربيع بزنبق
The hand of spring has offered you a violet
أساء كبارنا في الدهر حتى
Our elders erred throughout time
دعني أفرق ما عندي وأجمع ما
Let me sort what is with me, and gather what avails,
غضبتم والزمان معا
You became angry while time remained agreeable,
كن ولوعا بحب جمعك للمال
Be passionate in your love of bringing people together
أشهى إلي من الزلال على الظما
The one I desire more than fresh water
كغصني بانة بتنا اعتناقا
Like two branches we bent, embracing,
تحجب عني الطيف حتى كأنه

How many righteous souls has the earth embraced before us,
لا أطلبن مراما لست أدركه
I do not seek unattainable goals
رعى الله دهرا رطيب الجنا
For an age God tended my fair garden,
ودجنة لنجومها
In its darkness, the stars,
وعمياء لم تجنح إلى الخير مرة
Blindness has never inclined to good, not once,
لا تغترر بشبابك الغض الذي
Do not be deceived by your youthful vigor which
أفديه من رشإ تعنو لسطوته

ريحانة الإفضال عاجلها الردى
The basil of kindness, time's ailment afflicted it,

نشأت بمهدي رفيع الذرى

لم أنس لما أن سألت متيما

Charmingly decorated with lines

The valleys between meadows were watered for us by Wadaq
حقيقة ما تراه لمع آل
The light you see is but a flashing veil
يوم أتى الدهر فيما حزته الخبر
A day has come when Fate reveals its tidings,
وذي تفاحة حمراء أهدى
With an apple, red, my lover did present
إن عبد الرحمن مولى المعالي

أمسيت في قصر لحد
إن لليل بقايا عنبر
ولي بالجانب الشرقي بدر
وإذا ابتليت بفقد أهلك والحمى
في ديار الروم قوم
حتام سفن أمانينا على يبس
مولاي منك بدايتي ونهايتي
ثقيل روح يزور في زمن
إلا دعني وشأني يابن ودي
عشقتك والنفوس لها اختبار
اليلتنا هذي حكيت لياليا
صدعت فؤادي يوم بينك لوعة
أحبتنا لئن زالت عهود
يا نازحا عن مقلة
أفديك ظبيا إن سطا
أدرناها على نغم الرعود
نزلنا الصالحية في العشايا
ما جزت في روضة إلا وقد شخصت
قنعا بما قسم الإل
إذا ما زرت أكناف المرام
حسنت ليلة الخميس فكانت
ودع قلبي السرور والفرحا
فتى راعه الدهر الخؤون ببأسه
خذها سطورا إليك قد بعثت
إن رمت تبصر فالحا من فالح
قلت لما قضى ابن شاهين نحبا
من لإحتراق حشاشة الملهوف
بصدر معذبي سطرت ضاضا
تلوح لنا بالروم من كل جانب
قل للذي تبع الغواية والهوى
ما مر تذكر الكرى في بالي
الهجر بنا موكل مخصوص
دمعي أسفا على شباب يجري
إن ذا يوم سعيد
قصرت همة الكرام وطالت
نوالك دونه حجب السحاب
جاء الربيع بأزرق من سنبل
قد كنت أسمع بالهوى فأكذب
بت من فكري في حال السقيم
ومعبس للكاس راح وأنه
وافى الربيع الطلق غب الحيا
سقاه الحسن ماء الدل حتى
وإذا الحبيب وفى بوعدك مرة
سقى الله يوم القصر إذ كان بيننا
مولاي أللهم عفوا شاملا
رومي ذاك الحمى راعي العيون الشهل
قوم إذا اعتقلوا الرماح كأنها
سألتك ودا خالصا وترفقا
ليس الطعام بطيب لي أكله
عد لربع منك خال
إليك رسول الله وجهت وجهتي
يا إلهي هبني لعفوك إني
اشغل فؤادك بالتقى
مهلا سفينة آمالي لعلي بأن
كيف نرجو إقامة وحياتا
تركت الجواهر في بحرها
إن الدراهم والدنانير التي
قصور الشام محكمة المباني
إن مدح الملوك يقبح فضلا
دع عنك قرب معاشر آجالهم
إنعم بعيشك واغنم ما حييت به
انظر إلى فحم كأن لهيبه
قم ننتهزها فرصا
أقول إذا أبصرت وجه عواذلي
إلا م نسيم عطفك لا تدعه
ريحانتي روض المحاسن ما الذي
محجب لا تراه مقلة من
يا أكرم الرسل يا من ليس يشبهه
إن تغزلت أو مدحت فإني
كن حريصا واجمع من المال ما شئ
أرح مطايا الأماني واترك الطلبا
ذهب الشراع وصلت الملاح
يا رعى الله عصر يوم الخميس
هب يجلو الراح في كاس اللجين
دنف مذاب القلب من فرط الأسا
كبد تذوب وعبرة تترقرق
ما على ما لقيته من مزيد
إني لآنف من ذكر الأعاجيب
لعمري ليس بالإشعار فخري
عيونهم حين يأتيهم تقربه
نزيح ديار لا أنيس ولا صحب
