1. What harm if their phantom visited its likeness?
That one whom today his bed wearies,
١. ما ضَرَّ طَيفُهُم لَو زارَ مشبههُ
ذاكَ الَّذي ملَ مِنهُ اليَوم مَضجعهُ
2. And sleep - where is it? - while after them remains
the door of sadness upon which the hand of one wishing for death knocks.
٢. وَالنَوم أَينَ وَباب الحُزن بَعدَهُم
عَلَيهِ كَف تَمَنى المَوت يَقرَعَهُ
3. Death for me is the sweetest thing to be gained
If the house becomes desolate and separation prolonged.
٣. المَوت لي أَطيَب ما يُجتَنى
إِن شَطت الدار وَطالَ الحِجاب
4. No prisoner of passion enters the fire
Since no inhabitant of torment sees paradise.
٤. لا يدخل النار أَسير الهَوى
إِذ لا يَرى الجَنة أَهل العَذاب
