1. May Allah honor my master with life
And ransom him from every stubborn foe

And find solace in the branch of blissful cheer

3. You were to us as the soul is to the body
Or as the spell of magic in a seafarer’s eye

4. For your loss, every water is bitter
And every gentle breeze, vain and insipid

5. The roaring of lions, a dove’s lament
The hissing of swords, the sound of anguished sighs

6. The fluttering winds, rending garments
The weeping clouds, scattering pearls

7. We never saw the like of you, nor heard
Of any full moon that rose in the starry vault

8. Just as no brilliant light ever shone
In sleeping eyes, but tears for one missed

9. The maidens wish they could line your grave
Instead of earth, with the roses of their cheeks

10. A friendly cloud watered your tomb
With showers that will flow for eternity
