يقر بعيني أن قلبي ما قرا

كفاني الحر منتجع الغمام
The heat sufficed me, the place of retreat of clouds
لئن خاض المنايا للأماني
If Death enters the field against Hopes
لمن كلم كاللؤلؤ المتناسق
For whom are there words like orderly pearls
ولا ودعوا يوم النوى جارة الحمى
They did not bid farewell on the day of departure, neighbor of affection
لا تطلبوا بدمي سوى أدماء
In secret from Taym and from Taima
سما بأمرك إسعاد وإنجاد
The heavens at your command bring joy and salvation,
ناولتني العناب أنمل خود
The fingers of the grape-vine offered me
لا أعصر الخمر بل أغرس العنبا
I do not press wine, but plant grapes,
إن البشائر كلها جمعت
Good tidings all are brought together
عذلوه في تشبيبه ونسيبه
They blamed him for his youth and lineage
أبى الحسن إلا أن تعز وتغلبا
My friend insisted on triumph and conquest
نضوت سحابة غطت نجوما
I blossomed a cloud that covered stars
أحسنوا العطف عليها مهجا
Show kindness to her afflicted heart
سيد أيد رئيس بئيس
A generous lord, a helping chief
تشح بوصلها ذات الوشاح
She adorns herself with the garment of union
أسرف الدهر فهلا قصدا
Time was excessive, so why not be moderate?
قابلت نعماك بالسجود
I met Your blessings with prostration
مولاي دانت لك السعود
My Master, good fortune is yours
ما حال من جثمانه وفؤاده
What is the state of one whose body and heart
أمبتسم الأضحى ومطلع الفطر
I smile at dawn and at the start of Eid
صرفت صرفا سوى مدح
It was turned aside from any praise
تبرأ مني ويحي النظم والنثر
He disowned me, while poetry and prose came easily to him
ونت من دون غايتك العقول
You are beyond the reach of minds,
طلت نجيعي أطلاء وأطلال
My destinations have all become ruins,
تحلت بعلياك الليالي العواطل
The long nights have been adorned with your presence,
بشراي هذا مبدأ الإقبال
My glad tidings, this is the start of my determination
بيني ثلاثا سلوة الأيام
Show me three dates, fruit of days
لعل قسيم الفضل من آل قاسم
Perhaps the divider of virtue from the family of Qasim
ثلاثة حيتك في الأربعين
Forty brought you three blessings
لما بكت من غير دمع جرى
When she wept without tears flowing
وساحر الدل والتثني
And sorcerer of tenderness and yearning
نظرت إلى البدر عند الخسوف
I gazed upon the moon during an eclipse
هو الفتح أدنى حوزه المغرب الأقصى
He is the opener, the West being the limit of his conquests
قضى صادق الآثار في أمرك الأرضى
The sincere judge has decreed your perfect rule
الله عن تلك المناقب دافع
God defends those virtues from blame,
جلدا خليلي ما لنفسك تجزع
My stalwart friend, why do you grieve for yourself?
أتجحد قتلي ربة الشنف والخرص
Do you deny slaying me, O mistress of coquetry and forwardness?
فواتح الفتح تنبي عن تواليه
The keys to conquest herald its continuance
تناضل عن دين الهدى وتدافع
You struggle for the religion of guidance and defend it
هو الفتح بعد الفتح يأتي مسوغا
He is the victory after victory that comes justified
كفى بكفك يا يحيى حيا غدقا
Your palm suffices, O Yahya, as a generous life
لمن وقعة بالغرب ضعضعت الشرقا
For those shaken in the West, the East itself was shaken
حفت بحضرتك الفتوح جيوشا
Your presence was accompanied by conquering armies
من الملك المحيا في الرواق
Who is the living king in the palace
عاج له دهره فعاجله
He procrastinated, so time procrastinated against him
أشد بالقوافي ذكر علوة أو عليا
Speak of the loftiness of Ali or Aliya in best rhyme,
أبقت لصحوي من علاقتها نشوى
I sought respite from her relationship in my sobriety
ولي العهد أم عهد الولي
The Crown Prince or the Prince's oath
أشاد بها الداعي المهيب إلى الرشد
The exhorter to righteousness extolled it
ما للهوى إلا الرصافة مأرب
The passion yields nothing but purity, my beloved
الحمد لله لا أهل ولا ولد

طلعت عليك مع المساء صباحا
The morning dawned on you with the evening,
فخر لشعري على الأشعار يحفظه

O he whom God has quenched with cupbearer's toil, he toils on, cupbearing,
حجاب عمرك يا مغرور مهتوك
The veil of your age, O vain one, is worn

عصى أباه وجفا أمه
He disobeyed his father and neglected his mother
هنيئا لوفد الغرب من صفوة العرب

وعلى حفصية فهرية
On a Hafsian princess, noble and virtuous,
من عاذري من بابلي طرفه

لا جاه للعبد كالخمول
The slave has no glory in laziness
يا ريم قصر به أهيم
O ruins of a palace where I yearn
بعيشك عاطني أنباء دار
With your life, give me news of the abode
بنفسي من أومأت مقلتاها
With my soul, she inclined her eyelids
انظر إلى الدبران فوق المشتري
Look at the fleecy clouds above Capricornus
لا تعيبوا السواد فهو مناكم
Do not blame blackness, for it is part of you
من كل رقراق الفرند كأنه
From every clinking of the blades as if it were
هنيئا له عادى أعادي إمامه
Fortunate is he who opposes the enemies of his leader
غلبت علي لبعدكم أشجاني
My yearnings have overwhelmed me due to your absence,
يا أهل ودي لم أروم تدانيا
O people of my affection, why do I wish
نفوس العالمين لك الفداء
The souls of both worlds are yours for sacrifice
زار الحيا بمزاره البستانا
The youth visited his garden's shrine,
إلام في حل وفي ربط
Why in solution and in knot
لو عن لي عون من المقدار
If fate would grant me aid
لقد غضبت حتى على السمط نخوة

حديقة ياسمين لا

رق مولانا لعبد زمن

جناني عامر بهوى جناني

يا قرة العين إن العين تهواك

أوائل فتح ما لهن أواخر
The beginnings of conquests have no endings,
حرمت الرشاد لأني سفاها
I was denied guidance for I was foolish,
أمتك أبكار الفتوح إماما
Your nation has appointed the victors' youth as an imam,
غزو على النصر والتمكين منشؤه
A conquest motivated by victory and empowerment
حملت براحتها شبيهة خدها
In her palm like her rosy cheek
إن ضاع قلبي فأين أطلبه
If my heart is lost, where shall I seek it?
ورافضة من مائها في هوائها
And those who refuse its water as it sprays into the air
حسب التقريظ حلاك وما
The praises you shower are your ruin, nothing but infatuation and delusion,
هنئت يا بدر الكمال أهلة
You were congratulated, O full moon of perfection, on the occasion
لم يبق رسم للأدب
No trace of literature remains
أذنت أرض العدى بافتتاح
The land of enmity has given consent to its opening
تخيرت مختار الخليفة للعهد
You chose the Caliph's appointed successor for the covenant,
إن إمام الحق لا يسأم أن
The Imam of truth does not tire of
وخافت الحس ما له جسد
Of faded passion he has no body left,
سوسنة مزقت غلائلها
A lily with torn petals
لذنا من المطر المنهل بالمطر
We have enjoyed the rain pouring down
إلى الإلفين من أهل ودار
To the two thousand people of family and home
فتح البسيطة عنكم محكي
The simple one has unveiled himself to you, a talkative guide
أنت يا شغل خاطري نصب عيني
You, the preoccupation of my mind, the apple of my eye
تبرأ مني ويحي النظم والنثر
He abandoned me, yet poetry and prose still delight me
يفندني في العامرية لومي
In Al-Amariyya, my critics denounce me,
ورب حديقة برزت عروسا
Many a garden arose in bridal finery
طغا بتونس خلف
In Tunisia, tyranny emerged;
بشراي باشرت الهدى والنورا
Good tidings, I have started guiding to light and radiance
سقى الله وردا شاقني زهره الغض
God watered a rose whose bud overwhelmed me
يا حسنها سوسنة
O, her beauty, a lily
حملت نفسي ما تنوء به كما
I burdened my soul with love that weighed upon it
أدرك بخيلك خيل الله أندلسا
Reach out with your cavalry to the cavalry of Allah in al-Andalus
عديني بوصل وامطلي بنجازه
Bring me back with reunion and fulfill me with success,
ما بسيط الحياة إلا وجيز
Life is not simple, only brief,
خف كتابا وكاتبا يتقصى
Be discreet, avoid writings and authors
عرى الأعمار يعلوها انفصام
The ages slipped by, riven by schism,
أف لدنيا لم يزل أبناؤها
Alas! The people of this world have always
يا لاهيا عن رشده ساهيا
O you who are heedless of righteousness, wandering astray
لو ارعوى من يشمخ
If one who struts with pride could know
بدا المشتري بالأفق للبدر تاليا
The Moon rose chasing the Evening Star in the horizon,
أما التي أهوى فلي شطر اسمها
The one I love, I have half her name
لأمر الله في الأعضاد فت
God's command in the joints has loosened
دانت بهجر الدنى لله وازدلفت
She turned away from the vanities of this world, drawing near to God
فديتك ما هذا التراخي وإنما
My dearest friend, why this lack of care when
ضن السماح عليه بالترحال
The tolerant pardoned him for wandering,
تقوى على الإم والأوزار تحملها
You have the strength to bear burdens for your mother,
ألا قل لذي الجهل كم تطمح
Alas! Say to the ignorant, how far do you aspire
وسوسنات أرت من حسنها بدعا
Lilies that showed through their beauty some innovation
إن تقوى الله نعم الملجأ
Indeed, fearing God is the best refuge,
من ذا على الدهر مكث
Who has endured throughout time
لأندلس البشرى وحضرتها حمص
Andalusia has brought glad tidings, and its civilization is Hims,
لعمر الجواء بمزخوره
By the life of the gleaming full moon
وكيف يقر صب مستهام
How can a passionate lover find rest
قصارك جهلا في حياة قصيرة
Your ignorance lasts briefly in a short life,
وقالوا ألفت الكرى نطفة
They said you met misfortune as a drop
دارت السراء فيه قهوة
The cups of destiny passed around,
دنياك للأخرى سبيل سابل
Your life is fleeting, so make the most of it
ذكرت بلجاء بالإصباح منبلجا
At dawn I recalled Baljaa radiating light
ألما بأشلاء العلى والمكارم
When the noble heroes were led forth with spears
أحقا طربت إلى الربرب
Did you really rejoice at tambourines,
حيث المغاني حبيب زادني شجنا
Where the singers are, a beloved has increased my longing
لم يخن في الحب تأويلي
My interpretation of love was not betrayed
كرت سوافح عبرتي أشجاني
My eyes overflow with tears of longing
نموت على الدنيا فنحيا بلا دين
We die for this world, so we live without faith,
أيها الصاحب الصفي مباح
O my bosom friend, all is permitted
أجار من الخطب الأمير محمد
The prince Muhammad granted my request
لرأيك كانت الأزمان تصغي
For your opinion, time used to be attentive,
ومنبع سلسال حباه بطيبه
And a flowing spring He endowed with sweetness
كأن كتائب الباغين حزن
As if battalions of tyrants were sorrow
تحيف حالتي حيف الزمان
My state has been distorted by the injustice of time,
سجام لعمري أدمع وسجال
My tears and laments are eternal,
أنوح حماما كلما ذكر الشرق
I moan like a dove whenever the East is mentioned
جمعت للناس بين الري والشبع
You brought together for the people, prosperity and contentment,
لله قلعة بيران وعزتها
God's fortress is Biran and its might
إلى وعدها أصبو وهل ينجز الوعد
To her promise I yearn, but will the promise be fulfilled?
رويد الليالي كم تصر على الغدر
How the nights insist on betrayal
جدد لنيتك القصية نية
Renew your noble intention with an intention
إلى أوطانه حن العميد
The colonel yearned for his homelands
هل لمعاني الهوى دواء
Is there a cure for the pangs of love,
يا حاملا في قماط الغمد مكتهلا
O bearer in the scabbard's sheath made dull,
لمثال نعل المصطفى أصفي الهوى
For the example of Mustafa's sandal I purify my love,
كأننا لم نصل تلك الأصائل في
As if we had not reached those heights in
عندي نزاع ليس عنه نزوع
I have a strife from which there is no retreat
لا تصدوا فربما مات صدا
Do not reject, for perhaps rejection leads to death,
لام المحبون الفراق ولمته
The lovers do not blame separation or its pain
ويح ابن آدم غرته سلامته
Woe to the son of Adam - his wellbeing deceives him,
بشرى بإسفار صباح النجاح
Good tidings of the dawn of success' travel
عجبت لمن يستوثر الفرش مترفا
I'm amazed at one who hoards luxuries for himself
أمولاي حق العبد تقرير عذره
My wealth, the right of a servant is to justify his excuse
بنفسي مثلجات للصدور
With my soul, I chill hearts,
قل لابن شلبون مقال تنزه
Tell the son of Shalbūn of the words of dignified reproach:
لله عهد للرصافة سالف
God has a covenant with sincerity from long ago
وصفراء في لون المحب وحاله
Yellow in the color of the lover and his state
لمبشري برضاك أن يتحكما
For those who proclaimed Your consent could take control,
أراني كلما ذكرت أنسى
Whenever I'm reminded, I forget
يقر بعيني أن أزور مغانيا
My eyes delight in visiting the taverns
إني وإن كنت آبنوسي
Though I am an ebony idol carved,
أحن إلى ترب ثوى سكنا به
I yearn for the soil where my abode once lay
يا حبذا بحديقة دولاب
Oh what a blessing is the rotating garden
لبانة المستهام لبنى
ألم تر للخسوف وكيف أودى
قالوا الخروج لأرض الروم منقصة
أما بعد عتب العامرية من عتبى
أهلا بهن أهلة وكواكبا
ألم ترها تسمو لأشرف غاية
لقد تربت يميني من شخيص
يا حسنها سوسنات أطلعت عجبا
لا أرتضي الباخل خلا وإن
نور الهداية ما أضاء ولاحا
أحد لسان الشكر جلب المنائح
أسوسنة أم عيبة لسلاح
أشدو بها وسط الندي الحاشد
لم أدر والسوسان قد أوفى على
مرقوم الخد مورده
أعد نظرا إلى الزمن النضير
أعمى البصيرة من تقدمه الهوى

نادى المشيب إلى الحسنى به ودعا

إن شئت يا دهر حارب
من نطفة خلق الفتى أمشاج
نادتك أندلس فلب نداءها
ظهيراك التوكل والمضاء

عشنا لموت إمامنا
أناس من التوحيد صيغت نفوسهم

من لي بصبر خلي والفؤاد شج

ما العيد بعدك بالأماني عائد
لا يضع مني لوني عندكم
سلام كما افتر الربيع عن الورد
أتهم بي في الهوى وأنجد
مهلا أمامة كم تطول نواك
تمكن من مسامعه العذول
أيا بشراي قد وضح القبول
آب بدرا وقد ألم هلالا

بلنسية يا عذبة الماء والجنى
أعيا على الأعداء نيل نجاتها
جار من أهوى على لب
تجافت عن مضاجعها جنوب
وإما رأيت الرسوم امحت
ويرتاح للروحاء قلبي وفجها
بين التواري والظهور
تراءى له أفق البحيرة والبحر
سقيا لعهد ردته رأد الضحى
إن سعيد بن حكم
تلك الجزيرة أقبلت تنويها
سهونا عن مساورة المنايا
يا آخذا في غير مسلك رشده
يا شرها للبيض والصفر هل
يا من يغر بمضمحلات المنى
أمل الفتى ورد الزلال السائغ
بشر بأمن الله من خافا
نصحتك لا تبع رشدا بغي
