1. Life is not simple, only brief,
And the sleep of one who fears is dear.

2. The pious have truly won and succeeded,
While you missed success and achievement.

3. The most deserving of ascension now
Are those distinguished among people.

4. You may fulfill a promise foolishly, but
The appointment of wisdom has no realization.

5. Preaching abstinence yet craving wealth,
Such sermons are empty words.

6. How much you prepared for riches,
Yearning for them as if the world had no end.

7. God laughs at one who prays overly long
Murmuring beneath the cover of night.

8. So wake and fear the perils of night,
Lest you lose your kingdom, O King.

9. Evil with which we cannot draw near to God,
His justice demands uprightness.

10. Many hopes lead to despair,
Their hidden meanings apparent.

11. The mixing of two worlds is a lingering illness,
Withdrawing from forms a strong refuge.
