1. Be discreet, avoid writings and authors
Who split hairs in meanings and words,

2. And lower your eyes if with disdain they rise,
Restrain the soul if it swells in rage.

3. Long have been my nightly sermons, yet sermons
We do not heed, nor from them draw a lesson.

4. God guard him who loses hopes to greed
From one who envies him and lies in wait.

5. Awaken your eyes while mankind slumbers,
Who measures sleep against awakening?
